Charlotte&#8217;s suburban areas include areas of Union County.<\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: medium;\">Anson County was one of the largest counties in NC at one time, and its territory covered the southwest quadrant of the state. There are several books published on the history about Union County. One such book is <em>&#8220;Sketches of Monroe &amp; Union County&#8221;,<\/em> by Stack &amp; Beasley, published in 1902. Another good source for information on Union County is<\/span><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: medium;\">\u00a0available in this article: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.northcarolinahistory.org\/encyclopedia\/614\/entry\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">North Carolina History Project<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: medium;\">Current neighbor counties are (going clockwise from the northwest): Mecklenburg, Cabarrus, Stanly, and Anson counties in North Carolina &#8212; and Chesterfield and Lancaster counties in South Carolina.<\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\r\n<figure class=\"aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/ncgenweb.us\/union\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/nccountymapcrop.gif\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"121\" height=\"95\" class=\"wp-image-94\" title=\"nccountymapcrop\" src=\"https:\/\/ncgenweb.us\/union\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/nccountymapcrop.gif\" alt=\"\" \/><\/a><\/figure>\r\n<\/div>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: medium;\">Monroe is the county seat for Union County.
