Will of Sarah Rhodes, April 27, 1792
In the name of God Amen, be it known to all persons to whom there
presents shall come knowing that I, Sarah Rhodes of the County of Wayne
and State of North Carolina, being weak in body but in perfect mind and
memory, do make constitute ordain pronounce and declare this to be my
last Will and Testament, hereby making void all and every other will or
wills of any kind or nature heretofore made by me, that is to say first
I recommend my soul into the hands of God who gave it and my body to the
dust from where it came to be buried in a decent Christian like manner
at the discretion of my Executors, and as for the worldly goods with
which it hath pleased God to bless me, I give and dispose of in the
following manner to Wit
First, I give and bequeath unto my beloved daughter Mary Blackman five
shillings
Secondly, I give and bequeath unto my beloved daughter Sally King five
shillings
Thirdly, I give and bequeath unto my beloved daughter Sylvia Pipkin five
shillings
Fourthly, I give and bequeath unto my beloved son William Rhodes ten
pounds in cash and two head sheep
Fifthly, I give and bequeath unto my beloved daughter Lorohamah Rhodes
one Negro man named Pompy, one Negro woman named Patt, one sorrel mare,
one bed and furniture and one cow and calf and ___
Sixthly, I give and bequeath unto my beloved son John Rhodes all my
stock of hogs, the money I have previously lent him, four head of
cattle, ten pounds in cash, all my plantation tools one loom and the
rest of my kitchen furniture that which has not been given away before
Seventhly, and lastly, I give and bequeath unto my beloved daughter Anna
Bass the balance of my stock cattle, the balance of cash which is or may
be due me, and one white mare
And I do hereby ratify and confirm all and every part of the above
bequeated to them their heirs and assigns forever, by the said legaties
their heirs to be comfortably enjoyed
And I do hereby nominate constitute and appoint my son John Rhodes and
daughter Anna Bass my Executors to this my last Will and Testament,
seeming this to be as binding as any formal or other kind of will that
could be drawn in full testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand and
affixed my seal this 27th April 1792

Signed, sealed, published, prounounced and declared by me to be my
latest and Last Will and Testament in the presence of
James Rhodes and Anna Bass
State of North Carolina
At a County Court of Pleas and quarters Sessions
begun and held for the County of Wayne at the Court House in Waynesboro
on the Second Monday in January being the thirteenth day in the year of
our Lord 1794 & 18th year of American Independance
The last will and Testament of Sarah Rhodes late of Wayne County deceased
was proved in open Court by the oath of James Rhodes a Subscribing witness
ordered that the same be recorded - at the same time John Rhodes executor
therein name came into Court & qualified
