BENJAMIN
HOWARD and POLLEY HOWARD Contract- 1817 |
Agreement made and entered into between
BENJAMIN HOWARD SEN'R and POLLEY HOWARD both of Wilkes County and
State of North Carolina, Witnesseth that the said contracting
Parties have mutually agreed to exchange the undernamed Negroes, Viz-
the said BENJAMIN HOWARD doth agree and by these presents has agreed
and delivered unto the said POLLEY HOWARD her heirs &c to be
considered as her own Right and property and to be and remain at her
absolute disposal the following Slaves one wench named PHIAH
and her three children, viz, JOE, ALLICK and ISOM and
the said POLLEY HOWARD for and in consideration of the receipt of
the above mentioned four slaves do grant, convey, confirm and
deliver and by these presents have absolutely granted, conveyed,
confirmed and delivered unto the said BENJAMIN HOWARD his heirs, &c
to be at his and their absolute disposal the following slaves, viz:
one wench named THAMER and three of her children whose
names are as follows, viz: POLLEY, DAVEY and ENOCH. In
testimony of the foregoing exchange and delivery of the above
mentioned slaves the said contracting parties have hereunto
interchangeably set their hand and seals on the morning of the 15th
day of November 1816 BENJ. HOWARD POLLEY HOWARD ("X" her mark) In Presence of JOHN KEETON CORNELIUS HOWARD North Carolina Wilkes County Novr. Term 1817 The above contract was duly proven in open court by the oath of CORNELIUS HOWARD. Test R. MARTIN, Clk |
