Bill Of Sale 1836

Know all men by these presents that I Benjamin Wright, Thos Standly and his wife Priscilla Standly, Isaac Garrett and his wife Frances Garrett, Gamiel Wright, Ransom Porter and his wife Chloe Porter and Sarah Wright all children of Mathias Wright and grandchildren of Benjamin Wilson dec’d who did in his lifetiem by his last will and testament bequeath unto his said grandchildren one negro woman named Bridgett and increase to them and we the heirs as above have received from Mathias Wright our father the full consideration of the said negro woman Bridgett and her increase and furthermore we relinguish all of our right to the said negro woman Bridgett unto him the said Mathias Wright to him and his heirs and assigns forever in testimony of the same we have here unto set our hands and seals this 30th of March 1835.

This bill of sale from Benjamin Wright and others to Mathias Wright was exhibited in open court and the signature of Baby Baresco the subscibing witness thereto was proven by the oath of Silus Forbes and Ambrose Walston in due form of law and on motion ordered to be registered.

Division 1833

Camden County, N.C. Deed book “U” pages 514 & 515

Camden County, In obedience to the annext order of Court we the commissioners therein named have met on the lands named in said order on the 26th of January 1833 and have proceeded to divide and appropreate said land among the heirs in the following manner.

Lot 1- Containing 59 acres commencing at a marked pine in Polly Godfreys line thence south ward accross to the beaver dam swamp. All between said line and Isaac Harrisons line and containing the land over the road that said Wright bought of Michael Gray to Leah Wright.

Lot 2 – Containing 49 ½ acres beginning at a stake in Polly Godfreys line thence south ward accross to the beaver dam swamp. All the lands between said line and the line of Leah Wright to Jane Wright.

Lot 3- Containing 46 acres it being all the lands between said Jane Wrights line, Polly Godfreys line and Seth Wright’s heirs line and the beaver dam swamp to Benjamin H. Gregory in right of his wife Susan

And each of the claiments to have all the swamp against their respective shares of their land.

Camden County Court Nov. Term 1839

To the worshipful the Justices of the court aforesaid the petition of Nathanial Wright, Ebergean Davis and wife Phebe of full age, Peter Wright, John Wright, Thomas Wright and Margaret Wright heirs at law of John Wright. Respectfully show that they are tenants in comman of a tract of land in said county bounded by lands of Phebe Torskey, Isaac Tillets heirs and lands of Peter Saymour containing about one hundred acres and they pray your worships to appoint commissioners to make division among them and your petitioners.

We the commissioners in obedience to an order of court to us have this day March 6th, 1840 proceeded to set apart and divide the lands of John Wright dec’d amongst his lawful heirs in manner following.

Lot 1- Beginning at the gate at the main road running south 7 W 11 ½ chs to a stake thence S25 W to a head of a sleuth thence running down the middle of said sleuth to a branch thence running up an eastwardly course to the fork of a branch thence up the N.E. spring of said branch to a blown up gum thence to main road and along it to the first station containing 20 acres more or less, valued at two hundred and twenty five dollars, to Peter Wright.

Lot 2- Commencing at a stake at the stable and running No67W to a pine at the swamp binding Nathan Bells line to the main road thence accross the main road along a line of marked trees to an oak and beach at a pine stump thence S50E3 chs and 80 links to a pine thence S41E3 chs 56 links to a gum S67E1 ch 67 links to a maple N66E2 chs to a gum No69E2chs and 90 links to an oak thence S18E6 chs to an oak thence S15E to the road down the road to the gate thence S7W11 ½ chs along Lot no. 1 to the first station, containing sixteen acres more or less, valued at one hundred and fifty dollars, to John Wright.

Lot 3- Beginning at the corner of Lot no. 1 & 2 running S25W to mouth of a sleuth thence down said sleuth to a branch thence down center of the westwardly branch to the swamp thence up the said swamp to Lot no 2 at a pine thence S67E along a line of No. 2 to first station containing 25 acres more or less, valued at one hundred and twenty five dollars, to Thomas Wright.

Lot 4- Commencing at a gum and beach of Lot no. 3 running down the branch of Lot no. 3 to the fork of said branch thence down the southerly branch to a cypress at the river thence westwardly along the river to the center of the swamp thence up said swamp to line of J. Tillets heirs to the first station containing 32 acres more or less and valued at one hundred and twenty five dollars, to Ebergean Davis in right of his wife Phebe.

Lot 5- Beginning at a cypress at the river in line of Lot no. 4, thence eastwardly along the center of the swamp to a ditch thence northerly along said ditch binding the line pf Phebe Torskey 14 chs and 37 links to a crab apple tree thence S72W to the mouth of a branch to a maple thence binding said branch to the first station cypress at the river containing 30 acres more or less and valued at one hundred and fifty dollar, to Nathanial Wright.

Lot 6- Beginning at the crab apple tree of Lot no. 5 down said branch to the fork of the branch of Lot no. 1 thence up the NE branch of Lot no. 1 to a blown up gum thence along Phebe Torskeys line to the first station apple tree containing twenty eight and one half acres more or less valued at one hundred and twenty five dollars, to Margaret Wright.

And we further say that Lot no.1 pay to Lot no. 3, 4 & 6 twenty fives dollars each.

WRIGHT, GAMALIEL & BURFOOT

 

Camden County, N.C. Deed book “X”, page 425

This indenture bearing dated October anno domini eighteen hundred forty three, between Gamaliel Wright of full age and Burfoot Wright by his guardian Jaketh Wright of the one part and Luke Stephens of the second part both of the county of Camden and state of North Carolina. Whereas the said Gamaliel Wright and Jaketh Wright guardian, in pursuant to an order of the Court of Pleas and Quarter Sessions passed at June term 1843in the following words.

To the court Gamaliel Wright and others petition to sell lands.

Camden Court of Pleas & Quarters Sessions, June term 1843

Ordered that the lands named in the petition be sold on accredit of 3, 6, 12& 18 mos.

With interest from date and notes to be taken with approved security.

By order of which decree, we Gamaliel Wright and Jaketh Wright guardian as aforesaid after given legal notice did expose to the public sale the premises upon a credit of 3, 6, 12 & 18 mos. And Luke Stephens did appear at the sale and bid the sum of nine hundred dollars for the tract and was the last and highest bidder. Make this indenture witnesseth that for and in consideration of the sum of nine hundred dollars to us secured to be paid the receipt where of we do hereby acknowledge have bargained, sold a leined into offered and cosigned and by these presence do bargain, sell a lein into offered and convey unto the said Luke Stephens his heirs and assigns forever a certain tract or parcel of land lying in Camden County, butted and bounded as follows, by lands of the petitioner Gamaliel Wright, Caleb Barcoe & others and as land that Gamaliel W. Wright ? in his lifetime and devised to Gamaliel, Burfoot Wright orphans of Benjamin Wright dec’d. Containing by estimation seventy five acres more or less to have and to hold the above deserted land and premises with all the improvements. There pieces and profiters to the same belonging as in anguish offer leaning unto him the said Luke Stephens his heirs, execors, admins and assigns forever. And we the said Gamaliel Wright and Jaketh Wright guardian aforesaid for ourselves, our heirs, executors and admins do covenant and agree to and with the said Luke Stephens his heirs, execs, admins to warrant and defend the title to the said land and premises as far as we are bound to do in obedience to the petition and no further. In testimony whereof we have hereunto set our hands and seals, the day and year first written.

Know all men by the presents that I Devotion Wright of the county of Camden, state of North Carolina for and in consideration of the sum of four hundred and twenty five dollars to me in hand well and truly paid by Ambrose Walston of said county. The receipt whereof I do hereby acknowledge and are there with full satisfaction and contented have granted, bargained, sold and convey unto the said Walston his heirs and assigns a certain lot or track of land being situated and being in said county and bounded as follows. Beginning at the mile road at the south corner of Isaac Wrights land thence running on eastwardly down said Wrights line to the creek thence south course to the corner of Ambrose Walstons line, thence westward along said Walstons land to the mile road thence northward to the first mentioned station. Containing by estimation 40 acres more or less. It being part of a track of land which fell to the said Devotion by the death of his father Miles Wright. To have and to hold the said granted and bargained premises with the assurenances unto the said Walston his heirs and assigns forever. And I the said Devotion for myself executors, admin, heirs and assigns do convenant and agree with the said Walston his executors, administrators, heirs and assigns that I am ? simple of the premises with the ascertains and have right and lawful authority to sell and convey the same in manner aforesaid and furthermore I the said Devotion for myself my executors, admin, heirs and assigns as covenant and agree with the said Walston his executors, admin, heirs and assigns to warrant and defend the premises with the ascertains against the lawful claims and demands of all persons whatsoever unto the said Walston his heirs and assigns forever. Indenture to ? ? 9th Court of Pleas & Quarter session we the undersign commissioners being duly summoned was sworn by the ? ? person, have proceeded this 19th day of March 1839 to divide the lands of Benjamin Wright dec’d among his lawful heirs in manner following.

Lot 1- To Luke Stephens and wife Mary, bounded as follows beginning at a gax post at the angle of the road thence N35 E21 chs 40L thence N75 W23 chs 30L along a big ditch thence S4 W19 chs 40L rt on road thence binding the road to the first station containing 35 1/2 acres of cleared land also another piece of wood land lying in the neck beginning at a ? x maple thence S 50 E 16 chs 20L to Robert ? heirs line thence along said line to Pete Sigmours and others line thence along their line S80 E24 chains thence NE to the first station containing 10 ½ acres, being in full for their part of the lands of said dec’d.

Wrights house thence S34 W31 chs 20L from post thence S61 E31 1/2 chs to a cherry tree at the road thence N31 E70 chs 20L thence N61 W13 chs 60L to first station containing 11 acres also a piece of wood land on the road binding ? ? ?- No.1 thence S80 E 16 chs 20L to Robert ? heirs line thence binding said Brochetts heirs line to a beach thence N66 W5 chs 20L to ? ? thence S10 W12 chs 40L to first station containing 10 ½ acres, being in full for his part of the lands of said dec’d.

Lot 3- To Gamaliel Wright, bounded as follows, beginning at a cherry tree at the edge of the road at lot 2 thence ? to Gamaliel W. Wrights line, thence along said line to Lemuel B. Brochetts & William S. Berry heirs line thence binding said line to a corner beach thence binding Ransom Porters line to Isaac Garretts heirs line thence binding said line to the road thence along the road to the first station cherry tree containing 54 acres, being in full for his part of the lands of said dec’d.

We the undersigned commissioners being duly gradified have in obedience to the annexed order of the county court of Camden and state of North Carolina this the 3rd day of August AD one thousand eight hundred and twenty six to set apart and divide the lands of Thomas Wright dec’d son of Austin Wright dec’d among his legal heirs in the following manner.

Lot No. 1 to Edmund Barco in right of his wife beginning at a delombardy poplar thence S 50 W one chain, thence N 41 ½ West 2 chains 30 links then N 50 E 1 chain thence S 41 ½ E 2 chains 30 links to the first station containing 37 poles.

Lot No. 2 to Stephen S. Snowden beginning at the corner of the first lot then S 50 W 30 links then N 41 ½ W 3 chains 20 links then N 43 W 1 chain 40 links then S 41 ½ E 1 chain 45 links then S 50 W 1 chain containing 37 poles.

Lot No. 3 to Elizabeth Wright infant of William Wright dec’d beginning at the corner of the 2nd lot N 41 ½ W 320 links then S 30 W 80 links then S 43 E 285 links then N 50 E 60 links to the first station containing 37 poles.

We further order that Lot No. 1 pay over to Lot No. 2 & 3 sixty eight dollars to be equally divided between Staphen S. Snowden & Elizabeth Wright.

This indenture made the 19th day of April in the year of AD eighteen hundred and twenty six by and between Thomas G. Wright & wife Elizabeth Wright formerly Elizabeth Gallop of the county of Camden & state of North Carolina of the one part and Joseph Seymore of the county and state aforesaid of the other part. Witnesseth that they the said Thomas G. Wright and wife Elizabeth Wright for and in consideration of the sum of fifty dollars good and lawful money to them in hand paid by the said Joseph Seymore. The receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged that this hath given granted bargained & sold and both fully and freely and absolutely sell alien convey & confirm unto him the said Joseph Seymore his heirs executors administrators and assigns a certain piece or tenement of land situated in the county of Camden laying between Raymonds creek and Pasquotank creek. Being a tract of land that Luke Gallop left to his heirs and joining the lands of Jane Tillett, John P. Wright and also the lands of the said Joseph Seymore containing by estimation six acres. To have and to hold the above named land and tenament with every appenature thereunto belonging in anywise to his purpose and benefit and behoof forever who shall from time to time and at all times hereafter have hold remain occupy posses and enjoy the same free and clear of all manner of incumbrances whatsoever from us our heirs executors administrators and assigns for us and we the said Thomas G. Wright and wife Elizabeth Wright both further consent to and with the said Joseph Seymore to warrant secure and we defend the afforesaid land and tenament from the lawful claim of all persons laying claim thereto the same in any manner or way whatever.

In witnesseth whereof we have here unto set our hands and affirm our seals the day and date above written.
