128. Rev. Augustus Romulus BENNICK82 was
born on 1 Oct 1834 in Lincoln (Catawba) County, North
Carolina.83
He appeared in the census in 1880 in Burnet County,
Texas as follows:
Augustus R. Bennick, 45 yr; Sarah E., wife, 38 yr, b. NC;
Ida Aa., dau., 14 yr, b. SC; John H., son, 12 yr, b. TN;
Elizabeth, dau., 9 yr, b. AR; Harriett, dau., 7 yr, b.
AR; Clark Aa., son, 4 yr, b. AR; Winnie, dau, 1 yr, b.
TX.
He died on 25 Mar 1927 in Call, Newton County, Texas
and was buried in Kirbyville Cemetery, Texas with Masonic
honors.84
In an Application for Morturary Warrent it states that he
died of Bronchitis and general ill health in his
daughters home in Call, Newton Co., Texas. It lists her
as Mrs. May Benson (this would have to be- Hattie May
(Harriett) Bennick (Benson).
He was in Methodist minister84 and served in the military85 as
Augustus R. Bennick - F&S, 34th Regiment, North
Carolina Troops. He was appointed Chaplain on February
12, 1863, to rank from January 12, 1863. Resigned on
December 19, 1863, by reason of the destitution of his
family and also because he had accepted a ministerial
circuit. Resignation accepted on or about December 29,
1863.
Rev.A.R.Bennick Pension Application: filed on 1-30-1914,
and approved Dec.13, 1913. He states he is 79 years old,
born in N.C., and has resided in Texas since 1876. He
also states that he is residing in Tyler Co. for the past
15 months and has served as Chaplain for abt. one year of
the 34th Regt. of N.C. Vol. Inf., his rank was that of
Captain. The brother in law of A.R.Bennick, a G.P.
Cansler and wife B.A. Cansler made witness to his being
in the Confederat Army. They made their statement from
Newton Co.,Tx. Further data on war service: says: he
served as Chaplin of the 34th N.C. Reg. of Volunteers of
Gen. Scales Brigade and Gen. Penderis Div. of the Army of
Northern Virginia.He was member of the Orange Lodge, A.F.
and A.M.84
Rev. Augustus Romulus BENNICK and Sarah Elizabeth
CANSLER were married on 9 Nov 1858 in Catawba County,
North Carolina by J. S. Ervin.86 Sarah
Elizabeth CANSLER (daughter of Henry S. CANSLER and
Mary HINSON) was born in Nov 1841 in Lincoln (Catawba)
County, North Carolina83,84,87 and
died on 19 Nov 1925 in Newton County, Texas.84,88 Rev.
