The Henkel family line includes many prominent Lutheran ministers. Their line can be traced back to Reformation times. An ancestor, Count Conrad Henkel von Donnersmarck was a contemporary of sixteenth century reformers. The first Henkel known to have come to America was Anthonius Jacobus Henckel, known in America as Anthony Jacob Henkel. He was a Lutheran pastor who arrived about 1717-18 and was the ancestor of no less than 25 Lutheran pastors listed in this report. Sketches of Henkels found in this study are limited to his descendants.
