4440. Thomas H. BUMGARNER was born on 5 February 1911 in Catawba County, North Carolina. He died on 16 October 2002 at the age of 91 in Conover, Catawba County, North Carolina. He was buried in Fairview (Houck's Chapel) Cemetery, Hickory, North Carolina. His obituary appeared as follows: Thomas H. Bumgarner, 90, of 6059 St. Peter’s Church Road, Conover, NC died October 16, 2002 at his residence. Born February 5, 1911 in Catawba County, he was the son of the late George David Bumgarner and Texie Ward Bumgarner. He was a member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church. He had previously worked for Barnwell Brothers Trucking as a truck driver and had also been employed by Duke Power Company, as well as being a farmer. He served during WWII as a US Army Platoon Sergeant participating in the Second Wave at Normandy and was a POW. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Melita Jones Bumgarner, a sister Christine Blake and a brother John Sidney Bumgarner. Survivors include: Daughter & son-in-law: Suzanne & Billy Lineberger of Maiden Son: Thomas E. Bumgarner of Conover 2 grandchildren: Jacob and Katie Lineberger Funeral service will be conducted at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 19, 2002 at Drum Funeral Home Chapel in Conover. Rev. Paul Birner will officiate and burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 3:00 to 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 19, 2002 at Drum Funeral Home Chapel in Conover.
