951. Richard Glenn "Bud" SPENCER was born on 20 November 1923 in Catawba County, North Carolina.793 He died on 1 March 2012 at the age of 88 in Abernethy Laurels, Newton, North Carolina. He was buried in Conover City Cemetery, Conover, Catawba, North Carolina. His obituary appeared as follows: CONOVER Richard Glenn "Bud" Spencer, 88, of Conover passed away Thursday, March 1, 2012 at Abernethy Laurels in Newton. Born Nov. 20, 1923 in Catawba County, he was the son of Robert Alexander Spencer and Eva Gantt Spencer. Bud was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, having served during World War II. He was a retired upholsterer and foreman in the furniture industry. He loved to garden. Mr. Spencer was a lifelong member of Concordia Lutheran Church in Conover. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Genola Teague Spencer; son, Marion Glenn Spencer; brothers, Franklin Spencer and Pete Spencer; sisters, Martha Spencer, Rena Spencer, Myrtle S. Winters, Zula S. Rockett, Mary S. Justice and Thelma S. Smith. Survivors include his sons, Dickie Spencer and his wife, Stacy of Little River, S.C. and Doug Spencer and his wife, Sandie of Maiden; daughters, Renae Dutton and her husband, Skip of Hiddenite and Cassandra Johnson and her husband, Wesley of Taylorsville; sisters, Hilda S. Price of Conover and Frances S. Winters of Conover; grandchildren, Maris Spencer, Tyler Spencer, Lindsay Spencer, Erin Spencer, Brandy Wyant, Jennifer Parker, Ashley Dutton and Thomas Johnson; and eight great-grandchildren. A Service of Remembrance will be held Sunday, March 4, at 2 p.m. at Concordia Lutheran Church with the Revs. A. Mark Schudde and Michael O. Kane, and Vicar Steve Miller officiating. Burial will follow at Conover City Cemetery with military rites by Newton American Legion Post #16. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. this evening, Saturday, March 3, at Drum Funeral Home in Conover. Pallbearers will be Skip Dutton, Thomas Johnson, Billy Price, Jr., Alex Price, Wesley Johnson, and Dwayne Wyant. Honorary Pallbearers will be Stine Isenhower, Adrian Hefner, and Dr. Clarence Canrobert.
