Vonteena Alvin BOWMAN was born on 11 June 1934 in Alexander County, North Carolina. He died on 28 April 2008 at the age of 73 in Hickory, Catawba County, North Carolina. He was buried in Mount Pisgah Lutheran Church Cemetery, Alexander County, NC. His obituary appeared as follows: HICKORY - Vonteena Alvin Bowman, 73, of 476 S&K Road, Hickory, died unexpectedly Monday, April 28, 2008, at his residence. He was born June 11, 1934, in Alexander County to the late Jessie Troy Bowman and Ollie Elizabeth Frye Bowman. He was a member of Mount Pisgah Lutheran Church, where he was a member of the men's Bible study and breakfast clubs. He was a retired furniture worker, beekeeper and gardener. He also was a U.S. Army veteran. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Rita Bowman, and two brothers, Levi Bowman and Tollie Bowman. Survivors include his wife, Cora Price Bowman of the home; a daughter, Melissa Clouse and husband, Bob, of Taylorsville; two sons, Jerry Alvin Bowman and wife, Cherie, of Lenoir and Terry Lee Bowman and wife, Tamara, of Arlington, Va.; two brothers, Sam Bowman and wife, Hilda, and Dennis Bowman and wife, Mary, all of Taylorsville; three grandchildren, Brandon Clouse, Katie Bowman and Ethan Bowman; and a number of nieces and nephews. The funeral will be conducted at 4 p.m. Thursday, May 1, 2008, at Mount Pisgah Lutheran Church, by the Rev. Mike Stone. Burial will be in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens. The U.S. flag will be presented by Disabled American Veterans Chapter 84. The family will receive from 3 to 4 p.m. Thursday at the church. Memorials may be given to Blessed to be a Blessing, c/o Mount Pisgah Lutheran Church, 9379 N.C. 127, Hickory, N.C. 28601. Adams Funeral Home is serving the Bowman family.
