His obituary appeared as follows:¹⁷³⁹ Junius “J.R.” Deal, 84, of Oxford School Road, Catawba, died Thursday, December 29, 2005 at his residence. Born June 10, 1921 in Catawba County, he was the son of the late Russell Robert and Floy Jennielee Spencer Deal. He was a retired carpenter and was a member of St. Mark’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Claremont. He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Robert Leroy Deal. Survivors include: Wife: Georgie Mae Reinhart Deal of the home; Daughters & Son-in-law: Brenda Gail Deal of Catawba, Suzanne Deal Anderson & husband Gary of Catawba; Grandchildren: Brandon Anderson, Crystal Anderson, Lisa Pennley, Daniel Deal, Rodney Deal, Matt Atapovich,Shannon Atapovich; 8 Great Grandchildren; Brother: Geitner Everette Deal of Catawba. A Graveside Service will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, January 1, 2006 at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church Cemetery. Rev. Scott Bollinger and Vicar Jason Lee will officiate. Military graveside rites will be conducted by American Legion Post #16. The family will receive friends from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. on Saturday at Drum Funeral Home in Conover.
