4686. John Shayle "Shayle" EDWARDS was born on 27 April 1937 in Catawba County, North Carolina. He died on 30 July 2012 at the age of 75 in Claremont, Catawba County, North Carolina. His obituary appeared as follows: CLAREMONT John Shayle Edwards, 75, of Claremont, a Servant of the Lord Jesus Christ, loving husband, father, father-in-law and grandfather died at home Monday, July 30, 2012, after a long period of declining health. Born April 27, 1937, in Iredell County, he was the son of the late John P. Edwards and Vada Setzer Edwards Hewins. Shayle was a graduate of the first graduating class at Bandys High School in 1955 and a graduate from Lenoir Rhyne College. He was a former school teacher and retired from Carolina Freight/ ABF and was also a well known historian and statistician. He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Kay Elmore Edwards, of the home; daughter, Amy Towery and husband, Curtis, of Lincolnton; grandson, Luke Thomas Towery; brother, Mike Edwards and wife, Talitha, of Catawba; lifelong friend, Kenneth "Bud" Goble, of Claremont; and a number of Nieces and Nephews. The funeral service will be held Thursday, Aug. 2, at 11 a.m. at Shiloh United Methodist Church in Claremont with the Rev. Ron Lytle officiating. The body will lie in state 30 minutes prior to the service. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday, Aug. 1, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at Burke Mortuary in Newton. Memorials may be made to Palliative CareCenter and Hospice of Catawba Valley in Newton, or to Shiloh United Methodist Church in Claremont.
