3274. Robert Brown "Brownie" BOST952 was born on 25 February 1924 in Catawba County, North Carolina. He died on 28 March 2007 at the age of 83 in Catawba Valley Medical Center, Hickory, Catawba County, North Carolina. He was buried in Catawba Memorial Park, Hickory, Catawba County, NC. His obituary appeared as follows: NEWTON - Robert Brown "Brownie" Bost, 83, passed away Wednesday, March 28, 2007, at Catawba Valley Medical Center. Born Feb. 25, 1924, in Catawba County, he was a son of the late Earl E. and Mary Brown Bost. Mr. Bost attended Newton-Conover City Schools and St. Andrews College at Laurenburg. He was a veteran of World War II, serving three years in the U.S. Air Force in the Philippines and New Guinea. He was a member of the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars, and he served in the Newton National Guard. Mr. Bost was a lifelong member of Grace Reformed United Church of Christ in Newton, and he retired from Duke Power Co. in 1981. He belonged to two bowling leagues. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Woodrow E. Bost and Earl Bost Jr., and sisters, Edna Barringer and Thelma Hoke. He is survived by his loving wife, Iris Setzer Bost; a son, Robert Brown Bost Jr. and wife, Vicki; daughters, Sherry Bumgarner and husband, Charles, and Caroline Whisnant and husband, Robert; a brother, Coleman Bost and wife, Marcia, of Charlotte; a sister, Mary B. Squarillio of Dalton, Ga.; six grandchildren, Amy Griffin, Eric B. Bumgarner and wife, Kandi, Andrea Ferrari and husband, Joseph, of Norristown, Pa., Aaron D. Whisnant of Charlotte, Robert Brown Bost III and wife, Tina, of Jacksonville Beach, Fla., and Katie Kruger and husband, Justin, of Mooresville; and four great-grandsons, Gavin Griffin, Landon Griffin, Braedyn Bumgarner and Caleb Brown Bost. A Celebration of Life service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 31, 2007, at Grace Reformed United Church of Christ, with Pastor Jim Luck and Chaplain Larry Bolick officiating. Burial will follow in Catawba Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Aaron D. Whisnant, Robert B. Bost III, Justin Kruger, Tommy McDonald, Joe McDonald and Eric B. Bumgarner, with Joseph Ferrari as honorary pallbearer. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Grace Reformed United Church of Christ, Van Fund, or Abernethy Laurels Retirement Center in Newton.
