4665	i.	Gertie Mae COOK was born on 16 July 1923 in Catawba County, North Carolina. She died on 27 October 2008 at the age of 85 in Abernethy Laurels, Newton, North Carolina. She was buried in Maiden City Cemetery, Maiden, Catawba County, North Carolina. Her obituary appeared as follows: NEWTON - Gertie Mae Cook Devine, 85, of Campbell Road in Newton, passed away Monday, Oct. 27, 2008, at Abernethy Laurels in Newton. Born July 16, 1923, in Catawba County, she was the daughter of the late W.P. (Wilburn) Cook and the late Lula Lunsford Cook. She was a member of Providence Road Baptist Church in Maiden and retired from Carolina Mills. In addition to her parents, her husband, Ray Devine; three brothers, Everette, Coyte and Bill Cook; and three sisters, Lena Harvell, Ozella Honeycutt and Ornell Lancaster, preceded her in death. She is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Linda Morris and Mike of Maiden; one grandson, Brian Morris and wife, Kelly, of Hickory; one granddaughter, Jill Sigmon and husband, Kevin, of Maiden; great-grandchildren, Jessie Beard of Charlotte, Zack Beard, Carsyn Sigmon and Jessica Sigmon, all of Maiden, Amanda Sigmon of Asheville, and Leo Morris and Sophie Morris, both of Hickory; one sister, Margie Sigmon of Maiden, now residing at Abernethy Laurels; eight nieces; and eight nephews. The funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 29, 2008, at Burke Mortuary Chapel in Maiden, with the Revs. Don Sigmon and Ralph Lepley officiating. Burial will follow in Maiden City Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 7:30 p.m. tonight, Tuesday, Oct. 28, 2008, at Burke Mortuary Chapel in Maiden.
