Estelle Elizabeth SIGMON was born on 12 December 1913 in Catawba County, North Carolina.2083 She died on 22 May 2007 at the age of 93 in Pallative Care & Hospice of Catawba Valley, Newton, North Carolina. She was buried in Catawba Memorial Park, Hickory, Catawba County, NC. Her obituary appeared as follows: HICKORY - Estelle Elizabeth Sigmon Elrod, 93, of Hickory, was called to eternal rest May 22, 2007, at Palliative CareCenter & Hospice of Catawba Valley. Born Dec. 12, 1913, in Catawba County, she was the eldest daughter of the late Albert Earl and Mary Alice Dietz Sigmon. Mrs. Elrod was a former textile worker and retired from Griffith Security. She attended Catawba County Schools. Estelle was the oldest member of Unity Lutheran Church, where she was a former member of the Sunshine Circle and volunteered at Christian Ministry. Estelle possessed a deep sense of loyalty and devotion to her family, and she was grounded in her faith. She was a woman of noble strength and courage. The love and memories of our mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother will be cherished in our hearts forever. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas E, Elrod on Aug. 4, 1973; a son, George T. Elrod; four sisters, infant Elsie Sigmon, Catherine Herman, Bertha Rinck and Lois Wright; two brothers, Curtis Sigmon and Charles Sigmon; two sons-in-law, Bruce Griffith and Leck Ledford; and a daughter-in-law, Frances Stafford Elrod. Left to mourn her passing are her daughters, Mary Ledford, Dorothy Huffman and Brenda Griffith, all of Hickory, and Virginia Anderson and her husband, William, and Kay Mundy and her husband, Walter, of Newton; a son, Charles Elrod and his wife, Peggy, of Youngsville; 14 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; two sisters, Goldie Hedrick of Conover and Mary Wright and her husband, the Rev. Lex Wright of Hildebrand; and a sister-in-law, Catherine Hill Sigmon of Hickory. A Service of Celebration of Mrs. Elrod's life will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, May 29, at Hickory Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. Justin Kane officiating. Interment will follow in Catawba Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Mrs. Elrod's grandsons. The family will receive friends from 12:30 to 1:45 p.m. Tuesday at Hickory Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Pregnancy Care Center of Catawba Valley, 421 Main St., SW, Hickory, N.C. 28602 or Palliative CareCenter & Hospice of Catawba Valley, 3975 Robinson Road, Newton, N.C. 28658.
