5578. JoAnn HOKE was born on 27 July 1934 in Catawba County, North Carolina. She died on 31 December 2007 at the age of 73 in Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center, Winston-Salem, North Carolina. She was buried in Claremont City Cemetery, Claremont, NC (St. Marks & Calvary Luth.). Her obituary appeared as follows: JoAnn Hoke Kornegay, 73, of Claremont, a wonderful loving wife, mother, Nana and sister, went to her heavenly home Monday, December 31, 2007, at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem, NC. Born July 27, 1934, in Catawba County, she was the daughter of the late Clyde Everett Hoke and Mildred Sigmon Hoke. Mrs. Kornegay was a lifelong member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Claremont. She was strong in her Christian faith, with a heart filled with love for her family and friends. She was very supportive of her husband during his 26 years of service in the US Army and Air Force. The most joy in life for her was garnered from watching her daughter and granddaughters grow, hearing their laughter, traveling with them and most of all, imagining how wonderful their life would be. Her granddaughters are a testament to her all giving warmth and love. She was a very gifted and talented person. She was a practicing cosmetologist for over 53 years, with the last 10 years being established with "In Good Company" in Hickory. She treasured her customers and co-workers during all of the 53 years. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by an infant brother, Clyde William Hoke. JoAnn is survived by her husband of 47 years, Avery Turner Kornegay; her daughter, Tracy Ann Martin of Claremont; two granddaughters, Jayme F. Severt and husband Chad of Kernersville and Allyson G. Martin of Claremont; one great-grandson, James Chandler Severt of Kernersville; two sisters, Rita H. Self and husband Fred of Charlotte and Betty H. Powell and husband Gary of Claremont; one brother, Bobby L. Sigmon and wife Kathy of Bethlehem, NC; one niece, Donna C. Wellmon of St. Louis, Mo.; one nephew, David E. Sigmon of Hickory; two great-nephews, Alexander and Jackson Wellmon; and one great-niece, Dalyn Sigmon. She is also survived by numerous loving aunts and uncles and cousins. A memorial service of celebration, officiated by the Rev. Dr. William K. Hollar, Jr., Rev. Stanley L. Stiver, and Rev. Pierson Shaw will be held at St. Mark's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Claremont on Thursday, January 3, 2008 at 4:00 p.m. The family will receive friends in the Family Life Center from 2:30 to 3:45 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting memorials be made to St. Mark's Family Life Center "Sound System Fund", PO Box 550, Claremont, NC 28610 and to the National Kidney Foundation, 5950 Fairview Rd, Suite 550, Charlotte, NC 28210.
