3956. Violet Irene LAIL was born on 29 June 1930 in Catawba County, North Carolina. She died on 24 January 2008 at the age of 77 in Lutheran Home West, Hickory, North Carolina. She was buried in Catawba Memorial Park, Hickory, Catawba County, NC. Her obituary appeared as follows: HICKORY - Violet L. Matthews, 78, of Conover, died Thursday, Jan. 24, 2008, at The Lutheran Home West after a period of declining health. She was born June 29, 1930, in Catawba County to the late James Franklin and Bertha Etta Shook Lail. She was a member of Open Door Baptist Church. Violet was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph Matthews, and a great-grandson, Noah Alan Matthews. She is survived by three sons, Harvey Matthews and his wife, Linda, and Gary Matthews, all of Conover, and Terry Matthews and his wife, Regina, of Bethlehem; two daughters, Jane Isenhour and her husband, Daine, of Taylorsville and Janice Goodson and her husband, Terry, of Conover; one sister, Ruby Pauline Hedrick of Conover; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. The funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 27, 2008, at Open Door Baptist Church, with the Rev. Darrell Williams officiating. Entombment will follow in Catawba Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 tonight, Saturday, at Hickory Funeral Home. Hickory Funeral Home, 1031 Eleventh Avenue Blvd., SE, is in charge of arrangements.
