Draft Card for World War I indicates that he had blue eyes and dark brown haird. He signed it "S. L. Benfield".

Born March 9, 1938, in Catawba County, she was the daughter of the late Smith and Etta Spencer Benfield. Vivian was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was a member of Sandy Ridge Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Joel R. Moore; two brothers; and five sisters. Survivors include sons, Wesley Moore and wife, Julie, of Hickory, and Terry Moore, of Conover; daughters, Renee Shinn and husband, David, of Claremont, and Kathy Peticos and husband, John, of Conover; sisters, Joanne Greene and husband, Don, of Vale, and Pearl Prince, of Hickory; brother, Wayne Benfield and wife, Mae, of Conover; grandchildren, Adam and Nathan Moore, Josh Miller and Mekenzie Shinn; and five great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held today (Wednesday, Aug. 1) at 3 p.m. at Catawba Funerals & Cremations with Homer Greene officiating. Burial will follow at Catawba Memorial Park. The family will receive friends prior to the service, from 2 to 3 p.m., at the funeral home.
