She was buried in St. Luke's Lutheran Church Cemetery on Houston Mill Road, Catawba County, North Carolina. Her obituary appeared as follows: HICKORY - Dennie Novella Davis Hefner, 101, of Hickory, died Wednesday, Oct. 7, 2009, at her residence. Mrs. Hefner was born in McDowell County on Aug. 23, 1908, a daughter of the late Robert Jackson Davis and Minnie Bell Arrowood Wright. She was a member of St. Luke's Lutheran Church and was previously employed with Lenoir-Rhyne College in the cafeteria. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Hefner was preceded in death by her husband, Belton L. Hefner, who died in 1963; sons, Robert Hefner, Melvin Hefner, R.A. Hefner, Jackie Hefner and Jerry Hefner; daughter, Violet Louise Hefner; sisters, Mamie Biggerstaff and Era Fortenberry; and brothers, Hoyle Davis, Floyd Davis and Edwin Davis. She is survived by her daughters, Jean Coble and husband, Charles, of Conover and Diane Aaron, Linda Troutman and husband, Richard, and Brenda Gaither and husband, James, all of Hickory; son, Everette Hefner of Jacksonville, Fla.; 22 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren and great-great-great-grandchildren; and sister, Virginia Herman. A Celebration of Life service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 10, 2009, at St. Luke's Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Jeff Lindsay officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m., prior to the service, at the church. R. A. HEFNER was born on 22 June 1937 in Catawba County, North Carolina. He died on 11 August 2002 at the age of 65 in Frye Regional Medical Center, Hickory, Catawba County, NC. He was buried in St. Luke's Lutheran Church Cemetery, Alexander County, North Carolina. His obituary appeared as follows: R. A. Hefner, 65, of 2136 Mt. Olive Church Road, Newton died August 11, 2002 at Frye Regional Medical Center. Born June 22, 1937 in Catawba County, he was the son of Dennie Davis Hefner and the late Belton Hefner. He was employed as an upholsterer at Chastaine Industries. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by 2 brothers, Melvin Hefner and Jerry Hefner. Survivors include: Mother: Dennie Davis Hefner of Hickory; Wife: Bobbie Jo LaFone Hefner of the home; Daughter: Dixie-Dora Angela Hefner of the home; Sons and daughters-in-law: Randy Alan and Gay Hefner of Hildebran, John Philip Hefner of the home; Sisters: Jean Hefner Coble of Conover, Diane Hefner Aaron of Hickory, Linda Hefner Troutman of Hickory, Brenda Hefner Gaither of Hickory; Brothers: Robert Hefner of Conover, Everette Hefner of Jacksonville, Fla, Jack Hefner of Hickory; Grandchildren: James Warren McKinney of Newton, Adam Shinn of Hildebran Heather Hefner Grier and husband Travis Grier of the home, Marla Tallent of Newton. A graveside service will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 14, 2002 at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church Cemetery.
