3423. Alda Leona HEFNER was born on 5 April 1921 in Catawba County, North Carolina. She died on 6 March 2010 at the age of 88 in Valley Nursing Center, Taylorsville, North Carolina. She was buried in Mt. Zion Lutheran Church Cemetery, Conover, Catawba County, North Carolina. Her obituary appeared as follows: HICKORY - Alda Leona Hefner Bolick, 88, of Hickory, passed away March 6, 2010, at Valley Nursing Center, Taylorsville. Alda was born April 5, 1921, in Catawba County to the late Lonnie Edgar and Dona Turner Hefner. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Lafayette Bolick, and 10 brothers and sisters. She was a lifelong member of Mount Zion Lutheran Church and was a member of the XYZ Club. She retired from Hickory Frye Furniture. Surviving are a daughter, Susan Reese of Hickory; a son, Dr. Donald Bolick and his wife, Josie, of Fredericksburg, Va.; four grandchildren, Patrick Bolick and his wife, Nicole, of Denver, Colo., Teresa Bolick Keckler and husband, James, of Chicago, Ill., Christopher Bolick of Fairfax, Va., and Kendall Reese of Hickory; two great-grandchildren, Caroline and Brooke Keckler, both of Chicago, Ill.; and two brothers, Elton Hefner of Hickory and Walter Hefner of Taylorsville. A service will be held Tuesday, March 9, 2010, at 4 p.m. at Mount Zion Lutheran Church, with Dr. David Seymour officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 2:45 to 3:45 p.m. in the Mount Zion Lutheran Church fellowship hall. Alda Leona HEFNER and Paul Lafayette BOLICK were married estimated 1942. Paul Lafayette BOLICK, son of Jacob Leander [Bolch] BOLICK and Mary Ollie WOODS, was born on 7 April 1922.1860,2753 He died on 8 September 2009 at the age of 87. His obituary appeared as follows: Paul Lafayette Bolick went to his heavenly home on September 8, 2009. He was born April 7, 1922 in Caldwell County on the farm of his parents, Mary Woods Bolick and Jacob Lee Bolick. He was the last of their 14 children and is survived by a great number of nieces and nephews. As a toddler his father was killed in an automobile accident, but luckily he and his mother were thrown clear of the accident as his mother held him close to her. His mother began running the Brookford Boarding House. Paul attended elementary and high school in Brookford, and in the early forties he attended Lenoir Rhyne College. He then went to Granite Falls to work in the Shuford Mills Office. While there he lived with his older brother Robert L. Bolick and his family. When World War II broke out, he was drafted into the U.S. Army Air Corp. His basic training was completed at Keesler Army Air Force Base in Biloxi, MS. He was sent overseas to the New Guinea Theater in the South Pacific. Soon after arrival bombs began to fall, and they were ordered to jump into previously dug fox holes. Paul jumped in and found a soldier already blown up there; this had lasting, horrible effects on Paul. After the war, Paul completed his studies at Lenoir Rhyne. He then worked as a teacher, motel auditor, Brookford Post Office Manager, and served on Brookford Town Council. For many years, Paul was organist for his church, the Brookford Baptist Church. He was a gifted and talented man, we will miss him very much. The funeral service will be held at 3:30 p.m. on Friday, September 11, 2009 in the chapel at Bass-Smith Funeral Home with the Rev. Dr. George Huffman officiating. Burial will follow at Sardis Cemetery in Hudson, NC. Military graveside honors will be performed by American Legion Post 48. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 2:30 – 3:30 at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Baptist Children’s Home, P.O.
