4203. Elmer Ray HERMAN1314 was born on 22 September 1928.1745,2315 He died on 16 April 2009 at the age of 80 in Catawba Valley Medical Center, Hickory, Catawba County, North Carolina. He was buried in St. Stephen's Lutheran Church Cemetery, Hickory, NC. His obituary appeared as follows: CONOVER - Elmer Ray Herman, 80, of Conover, passed away April 16, 2009, at Catawba Valley Medical Center after a period of declining health. Elmer was born Sept. 22, 1928, in Catawba County to the late Alvin and Myrtle Spencer Herman. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Mildred Rollins. He retired from Hickory Chair Co. and was a Korean War veteran, serving in the Army. He and his wife enjoyed square dancing. Surviving are his wife, Ruby Keller Herman of the home; a daughter, Linda Hedrick and husband, Paul, of Conover; son, Danny Lail and wife, Cecelia, of Newton; granddaughters, Michelle Simmons and husband, Rick, of Conover, Kristie Farwell and husband, Scott, of Raleigh and Angie Leatherman and husband, Nelson, and Melissa Henry and husband, Steven, all of Catawba; great-grandchildren, Brandon, Cody and Logan Simmons, Noah and Chloe Leatherman and Mason and Emma Henry; a sister, Alva Lea Pingel and husband, Jim, of Wisconsin; brothers, Luther Herman and wife, Monica, of Missouri and Darvin Herman and wife, Ann, of Greer, S.C. Elmer was a member of St. Stephens Lutheran Church, Missouri Synod, where services will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, April 19, 2009, with the Revs. David Ziehr and Scott Bollinger officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery, with military honors conducted by members of American Legion Post 48. St. Stephens Mens Club will serve as pallbearers and honorary pallbearers, along with the XYZ of Mount Zion Lutheran Church. The family will receive friends from 1 to 2:45 p.m. Sunday at the church. He then decided to go into the retail furniture business with his father until his father's death. They had no children.

Elmer Ray HERMAN and Ruby KELLER were married estimated 1949. Ruby KELLER was born on 12 July 1923 in Catawba County, North Carolina. She died on 30 April 2010 at the age of 86 in Catawba County, North Carolina. Her obituary appeared as follows: HICKORY - Ruby Keller Lail Herman went to be with her Lord on Friday, April, 30, 2010, with her loving family surrounding her. Ruby was born July 12, 1923, in Catawba County to the late Lester Keller and Bertha Lafone. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, William Lail; her second husband, Elmer Ray Herman; sisters, Stella Eckard, Thelma Monteith and Vergie Sipe; and a brother, Bobby Joe Keller. She retired after 25 years at Catawba Valley Medical Center in the lab department, and then she continued serving as a hospital volunteer. She was a lifelong member of Mount Zion Lutheran Church and the XYZ Club. She also enjoyed being surrounded by her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was active at the Conover YMCA and enjoyed square dancing. Surviving are daughter, Linda Hedrick and husband, Paul, of Conover; a son, Danny Ray Lail of Newton; brother, Bill Keller of Conover; grandchildren, Michelle Simmons and husband, Rick, of Conover, Kristie Farwell and husband, Scott, of Raleigh, Angela Leatherman and husband, Nelson, of Catawba and Melissa Henry and husband, Steven, of Sherrills Ford; and great-grandchildren, Brandon, Cody and Logan Simmons, Mason and Emma Henry and Noah and Chloe Leatherman. The family will receive friends Monday, May 3, 2010, from 2 to 3:45 p.m. at Mount Zion Lutheran Church. The funeral service will be held Monday, May 3, at 4 p.m. at Mount Zion Lutheran Church, with Pastor Scott Bollinger officiating. The Crucifer will be great-grandson, Brandon Simmons. Pallbearers will be Bobby Poteat, Allen Keller, Rick Simmons, Cody Simmons, Harold Lineberger and Scott Farwell. Honorary Pallbearers will be members of the XYZ Club.
