1874. Marshall Leroy "Mutt" HERMAN was born on 22 December 1904 in Hickory, Catawba County, North Carolina.^{1319,2309,2323} He died on 10 June 1987 at the age of 82 in Hickory, Catawba County, North Carolina.^{1770,2309,2323} He was buried in Catawba Memorial Park, Hickory, Catawba County, NC.²³²³ Marshall, better known as Mutt, became a brick mason working for Vernon O. Sipe. When Herman and Sipe Building Contractors was formed, Mutt worked for them as a brick mason until the depression in the early 30's. When there was no work, he learned to upholster furniture and worked until he became ill and had to stop. He bought out Carolina Industries and operated it with his son, Pascal. It is now known as Herman Chairs, Inc. of Oyama. Mutt retired from the furniture business, turning over full management to son, Pascal.

Marshall Leroy "Mutt" HERMAN and Vera Catherine HUFFMAN were married on 30 June 1926 in Catawba County, North Carolina.²³²⁴ Wit: Grover R. Herman, Katherine M. Newton, sadie Killian, by J.E. Barb, Minister Vera Catherine HUFFMAN, daughter of Henry W. HUFFMAN and Annie Elizabeth PROPST, was born on 4 June 1907 in Hickory, Catawba County, North Carolina.^{1770,2323,2325} She died on 18 March 1984 at the age of 76.²³²⁶ She was buried in Catawba Memorial Park, Hickory, Catawba County, NC.²³²³
