3353. Florence Viola STINE was born on 1 July 1923 in Hickory, Catawba County, North Carolina. She died after a period of declining health on 27 March 2005 at the age of 81 in Spring Arbor Assisted Living Center, Hickory, North Carolina. She was buried in St. Stephen's Lutheran Church Cemetery, Hickory, NC. Her obituary appeared as follows: HICKORY - Viola Stine Hicks, 81, of Spring Arbor Assisted Living, 2010 Twenty-Ninth Avenue Drive, NE, Hickory, died Sunday, March 27, 2005, after a period of declining health. Born July 1, 1923, in Catawba County, she was the daughter of the of the late William Arthur and Maude Huffman Stine. She was a lifetime member of St. Stephens Lutheran Church - Missouri Synod in Hickory, where she was a member of Circle No. 1. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John J. Hicks Sr.; and a daughter, Linda Kay Hicks. Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Patty Stein and husband, Jake, of Mesa, Ariz., and Nancy Liechty and husband, Dale, of Front Royal, Va.; a son and daughter-in-law, John J. Hicks Jr. and wife, Pat, of Hickory; three grandchildren, John J. Hicks III, James E. Hicks and Lora Eilderts; two great-grandchildren, Austin Hicks and Garrett Hicks; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Ruth Barger of Ozark, Mo., Alice Moore and husband, Robert, of Yadkinville; a brother and sister-in-law, Clarence L. Stine and wife, Charlene, of Conover. A Service of Remembrance will be held at 4 p.m. Wednesday, March 30, 2005, at St. Stephens Lutheran Church - Missouri Synod in Hickory. The Revs. David Guelzow and Willard Mueller will officiate, and burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 3 to 3:45 p.m. Wednesday at the church. At other times, the family will be at the home of John J. Hicks Jr., 3805 Twenty-Second Street Court, NE, Hickory. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Stephens Lutheran Church - Missouri Synod, 2304 Springs Road, Hickory, N.C. 28601 or Palliative CareCenter & Hospice of Catawba Valley, 3975 Robinson Road, Newton, N.C. 28658. John Joseph HICKS , Sr., son of Forest Burkhardt HICKS and Elsie Sophia CRAIG, was born on 17 March 1915 in Marion, McDowell Co., North Carolina. He died on 20 January 2001 at the age of 85 in Hickory, Catawba County, North Carolina.
