Born Jan. 17, 1936 in Catawba County, he was the son of the late Edgar Rhyne Caldwell and Naomi Herman Caldwell. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Mike Caldwell; and a brother, Bryan Caldwell. He is survived by a daughter, Becky Welch and her husband, Wayne of Greensboro; grandchildren, Briana Welch and Brett Welch, both of Greensboro; step-daughter, Debbie Caldwell and her son, Grey Puett of Hickory; sister-in-law, Frankie Caldwell of Hickory; nephews, Dennis and Tim Caldwell, both of Hickory; niece, Donna Lail of Hickory; and Life Mate, Patricia Lail of Hickory. The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Oct. 28, in the chapel at Bass-Smith Funeral Home with the Rev. Charles Kyker officiating. Burial will follow at Catawba Memorial Park. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 1 to 2 p.m. at the funeral home. BARNES and Lassie Mae Estelle JENKINS, was born on 19 October 1939 in Catawba County, North Carolina. She died on 30 August 2012 at the age of 72 in Hickory, Catawba County, North Carolina. Her obituary appeared as follows: HICKORY Patsy Charlene Barnes Caldwell, 72, of Hickory, passed away Thursday, Aug. 30, 2012, at her residence. Born Oct. 19, 1939, in Catawba County, she was the daughter of the late Lassie and Lewis "Shorty" Barnes. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her former husband, Richard Lewis Caldwell; and a brother, Billy Wayne Morgan. Ms. Caldwell was a hairdresser for over 50 years, and was currently with Eclipso in Hickory. She was also a sales associate for Wal-Mart for 28 years. She is survived by her daughter, Debra Denise Caldwell, of Newton; grandson, Erick Grey Puett, of Newton; and a special daughter, Vickie Carroll, of Sherrills Ford. A memorial service will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 5, in the chapel at Bass-Smith Funeral Home in Hickory.
