She was born Oct. 4, 1922 and was the widow of John Edward Pitts. A lifelong resident of Hickory, Evelyn is survived by her son, Dennis Edward Pitts and his wife, Marcia, and grandchildren, Alan Edward Pitts and Lindsay Martin Pitts of Cary, N.C., along with Pamela Thompson Pitts, widow of John Richard Pitts, her eldest son who recently predeceased her, and grandchildren, Elizabeth Ann Pitts and Avery Richard Pitts of Boone. She is further survived by her brothers and sisters, Helen Virginia Miller Frye, Mary Frances Miller Yount, Joe Erwin Miller, John Alvin Miller, Revonda Pearl Miller Harris and Barbara Jean Miller Isenhour. She was preceded by her brothers and sister, Harold William Miller, Dorothy Nell Miller Reed and Charles Franklin Miller. Evelyn was a retired office dental assistant for almost 60 years having worked for Fritz and Fritz Dentists and ending with Drs. Culbreth and Poovey in 2009. She was a member of Holy Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church for 50 years. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 21, at Holy Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church with the Rev. Dr. William B. Trexler and the Rev. Dr. William F. Milholland officiating. Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery. He is survived by his wife; Pam Pitts, one daughter, Elizabeth Ann Pitts, one son; Avery Richard Pitts all of Boone, his mother; Evelyn Miller Pitts of Hickory and one brother; Dennis Edward Pitts of Cary. Funeral services for Mr. John Richard Pitts will be conducted Sunday afternoon at 2:30 at Grace Lutheran Church. Officiating will be Vicar Jonathan Weant. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery.
