3375. David Lee SMITH was born on 12 March 1913 in Catawba County, North Carolina. He died on 25 January 2006 at the age of 92 in Catawba Valley Medical Center, Hickory, Catawba County, North Carolina. His obituary appeared as follows:2770 HICKORY - David Lee Smith, 92, of Lutheran Home-East, Hickory, died Jan. 25, 2006, at Catawba Valley Medical Center after a period of declining health. Born March 12, 1913, in Catawba County, he was a son of the late John F. and Mary Seabock Smith. A life member of Mount Olive Lutheran Church, where he served in various capacities at the church, he retired after 50 years from Hickory Chair as an industrial engineer. He was a graduate of Hickory High School Class of 1930. He was preceded in death by his wife, Gertrude Poovey Smith; three brothers; and a sister. Survivors include three daughters, Lorraine Yount and husband, Darvin, of Conover, Mary Louise Good of Hickory and Carolyn Robinson and husband, Pete, of Newton; a son, Larry K. Smith and wife, Julia, of LaFollette, Tenn.; a sister, Virginia Deal of Hickory; grandchildren, Dr. Donald Good, Debbie Heavner, Joyce McNeill, Timothy Yount, Kevin Yount, Cindy Card, Amy Smith, Leslie Bohannon, Lara Edwards, Heather Packard, Lee Robinson, Jack Robinson and Donna Simmons; and 26 great-grandchildren. The funeral will be conducted by the Rev. David R. Keck and Vicar Tim Bean at 11 a.m. Saturday at Mount Olive Lutheran Church. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Gertrude POOVEY, daughter of William Lewis [Boovy] POOVEY and Ollie WARD, was born on 26 May 1914 in Catawba County, North Carolina. She died on 1 January 2004 at the age of 89 in Lutheran Home West, Hickory, North Carolina. She was buried in Mt. Olive Lutheran Church Cemetery, Newton, North Carolina. Her obituary appeared as follows: HICKORY - Gertrude Poovey Smith, 89, of N.C. Lutheran Home East, died Jan. 1, 2004, at N.C. Lutheran Home East after a period of declining health. Born May 26, 1914, in Catawba County, she was a daughter of the late Louis and Ollie Ward Poovey. A member of Mount Olive Lutheran Church, she retired as a bookstore manager with Catawba Valley Community College. She was preceded in death by a sister, Faye Gibbs. Survivors include her husband, David L. Smith; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Lorraine and Darvin Yount of Conover, Mary Louise Good of Hickory and Carolyn and Pete Robinson of Newton; a son and daughter-in-law, Larry K. and Julia Smith of Lafollette, Tenn.; grandchildren, Donald Good, Timothy Yount, Jack Robinson, Amy Strange, Heather Packard, Debbie Heavner, Kevin Yount, Donna Simmons, Leslie Bohannon, Joyce McNeill, Lee Robinson, Cindy Carol and Laura Edwards; and 27 great-grandchildren. Mary Louise SMITH was born on 26 June 1937 in Catawba County, North Carolina. She died on 16 March 2007 at the age of 69 in Lutheran Home East, Hickory, North Carolina. Her obituary appeared as follows: HICKORY - Mary Louise Smith Good, 69, of Hickory, passed away March 16, 2007, at Lutheran Home Hickory East. Mrs. Good was born in Catawba County on June 26, 1937, to the late David and Gertrude Poovey Smith. She was a lifelong member of Mount Olive Lutheran Church in Hickory and a longtime employee of Shuford Mills. She was a graduate of Claremont Central (Hickory) High school and was a member of the Hickory Rescue Squad Auxiliary. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Wayne C. Good. Mrs. Good is survived by a son, Dr. Donald W. Good and wife, Jan, of Williamsburg, Ky.; a daughter, Debbie Good Heavner and husband, Lee Heavner, of Taylorsville; five grandchildren, Hannah Stuart and husband, Bryan Stuart, Jason Good, Taylor Heavner, Jonathan Webster and Jessi Webster; two sisters, Lorraine Yount and husband, Darvin Yount, of Conover and Carolyn Robinson and husband, Pete, of Newton; a brother, Larry Smith and wife, Julia, of LaFollette, Tenn.; a sister-in-law, Bettie Carpenter; two brothers-in-law, Bill Good and wife, Lety, and Dan Good and wife, Sandy; and a number of nieces and nephews. The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. today, Sunday, March 18, 2007, at Mount Olive Lutheran Church, and will be conducted by Pastor Dave Keck. The family will be at the church one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow in Turkey Cove Cemetery in Marion at 4:30 p.m. Pallbearers will be Kevin Yount, Ken Moretz, Jack Robinson, Mark Simmons, Jason Good, Jonathan Webster and Bryan Stuart.
