Betty HERMAN was born on 16 April 1935 in Hickory, Catawba County, North Carolina. She died on 8 September 2011 at the age of 76 in Norfolk, Virginia. Her obituary appeared as follows: NORFOLK Betty Sigler, 76, passed away in her home, surrounded by family, on Thursday, Sept. 8, 2011. She was born Betty Lou Herman in Hickory on April 16, 1935, to Helen Carpenter and David Herman. Her parents and sister, Valeria Anderson, pre-deceased her. Survivors include her husband of 56 years, Harold Sigler; sons, Charles and Gary; daughters, Nancy and Susan; brothers, David and Alden Herman; daughters-in-law, Torey and Gwen; and grand-daughters, Kristina and Abigail Sigler. Betty worked for Norfolk Public Schools for 30 years. She was very involved in church and civic organizations and was a devoted wife and mother. A memorial service was held Saturday, Sept. 17, 2011, at 10 a.m. at St. Peter's Episcopal Church, 224 S. Military Hwy., Norfolk, VA. A reception followed immediately after the service in the Parish Social Hall. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate memorial donations to the St. Peter's Building Fund.
