Her obituary appeared as follows: CONOVER - Lucien Herman "Teen" Gurganious, 91, of Conover, died Friday, March 6, 2009, at Lutheran Home-East. Mrs. Gurganious was born May 30, 1917, in Catawba County, daughter of the late David Julius Herman and Jennie Luella Killian Herman. She is survived by her daughters, Linda Tilley and husband, Ken, of Hickory and Cathy Elijah and husband, Bruce, of Houston, Texas; sons, Max Gurganious and wife, Judy, and Nelson Gurganious and wife, Selena, all of Hickory, and Tim Gurganious of Conover; grandchildren, Kelly Hefner and wife, Gina, of Stanley, Kendida Tilley of Asheville, Jadi and Cory Gurganious of Hickory, Brady Gurganious and wife, Lark, of Baltimore, Md., Grace Elijah of Houston, Texas, and Melissa G. Hammer and husband, Shane, of Stony Point; great-grandchildren, Marly and Kage Hefner, Noah and Miriam Gurganious, Kyndall Hammer and Katelynn and Ashlynn Isenhour; seven stepgrandchildren; and five stepgreat-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Gurganious was preceded in death by her husband, W.R. Gurganious; sisters, Annie Mae Dellinger, Mary Ellen Quinney and Irene Herman; and brothers, Harlan Herman, Alvin Herman, Grover Herman, Marshall Herman, Clarence Herman, David Herman, Lawrence Herman, Darvin (Babe) Herman and Aaron Herman. She was a charter member of Our Savior Lutheran Church. A service of remembrance will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, March 9, 2009, at St. Stephens Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod in Hickory. The Revs. David Guelzow and David Ziehr will officiate. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends Monday from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m., prior the service. The Gurganious family has entrusted the funeral arrangements to Drum Funeral Home and Cremation Services of Hickory. She first worked in textiles, they as a Laundress for Sipe's Orchard Home for 22 years before retiring to devote her time to her gardening, quilting and family. |
