Neva Lois HERMAN was born on 7 September 1917 in Catawba County, North Carolina. She died on 22 January 2006 at the age of 88 in Frye Regional Medical Center, Hickory, Catawba County, NC. She was buried in Mount Zion Lutheran Church Cemetery, Conover, North Carolina. Her obituary appeared as follows:1847 HERMAN, Neva Lois HICKORY - Neva Lois Herman Flowers, beloved mother, grandmother, sister and aunt, 88, of Hickory, died Sunday, Jan. 22, 2006, at Frye Regional Medical Center. Born Sept. 7, 1917, in Catawba County, she was a daughter of the late Kirby Leroy and Claudia Miller Herman. She was a lifelong member of Mount Zion Lutheran Church in Conover and was a member of the XYZ Senior Citizen’s Club at Mount Zion Lutheran. She retired from Adams-Millis Hosiery Mill. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James “Bud” C. Flowers; four sisters, Lucille Huffman, Margaret Laney, Pauline Hoke and Helen Abernathy; and five brothers, Ruel Herman, Leonard Herman, Hugh Herman, Paul Herman and Fred Herman. Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Pat Hicks and husband, John, of Hickory; two grandsons, John Hicks III and wife, Deborah, of Newton and James Hicks and wife, Anna, of Conover; two great-grandchildren, Austin Hicks and Garrett Hicks; two stepgreat-grandchildren, Samantha Ollis and Makayla Ollis; two sisters, Ruby Abernethy and Frances Anderson of Hickory; two brothers, Jim Herman and Phil Herman of Hickory; and an aunt, Maude Armstrong of Conover. A Service of Remembrance will be held at 4 p.m. today, Tuesday, Jan. 24, 2006, at Mount Zion Lutheran Church. The Revs. David M. Seymour and Kristine Hill will officiate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Pallbearers are Tim Abernathy, Terry Huffman, Casey Carpenter, Tony Huffman, Dave Eichhorn and Marty Huffman. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the XYZ Club of Mount Zion Lutheran Church. The family will receive friends from 2:30 to 3:45 p.m. today, Tuesday, at Mount Zion Lutheran Church. The family requests no flowers be sent and memorials may be made to Mount Zion Lutheran Church, 4420 County Home Road, Conover, N.C. 28613. The Flowers family has entrusted funeral arrangements to Drum Funeral Home and Cremations in Conover.
