Leona HUFFMAN, daughter of Charles Eugene HUFFMAN and Carrie Genetta PROPST, was born on 23 December 1910 in Catawba County, North Carolina. She died on 10 February 2004 at the age of 93 in Hickory, Catawba County, North Carolina. She was buried in St. Stephen's Lutheran Church Cemetery, Hickory, NC. Her obituary appeared as follows: HICKORY - Leona Huffman Herman, 93, of Sixteenth St., NE, died Tuesday, Feb. 10, 2004, at her residence after a brief illness. Born Dec. 23, 1910, in Catawba County, she was a daughter of the late Charles Eugene and Carrie Jeanette Propst Huffman. A member of Our Savior Lutheran Church, where she is on the prayer committee and visitation committee, she retired from Deville Furniture Co. and was a member of St. Stephens Over 60 Club and LWML. She lived her life in God’s grace and tried her best to pass her belief in Christ to her family. She opened her door and her heart to everyone who passed her way. She blessed us with her love, patience, faith, knowledge and her tender way of healing our hurts. We will all miss her, but our comfort is knowing she is with the Lord today. She was a mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother to anyone that entered her door. She was preceded in death by her husband, Milas Ray Herman; a granddaughter, Debbie Herman; and a daughter-in-law, Hettie Herman. Survivors include four sons, Ervin Herman and wife, Virginia, Carroll Herman, Ernest Herman and wife, Mary, of Hickory and Bob Herman and wife, Rachel, of Thomasville; five daughters, Joyce Shuford and husband, Jerry, Alma Rae Brown, Helen Pendleton and husband, Curtis, and Nola Sain and husband, Tony, of Hickory and Rita Witt and husband, Pete, of Lugoff, S.C.; 29 grandchildren; 41 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Ollie Huffman of Hickory; and a number of nieces and nephews. The funeral will be conducted by Pastor Robert Stevens at 3 p.m. Thursday at Our Savior Lutheran Church. Burial will be in St. Stephens Lutheran Church Mo-Synod Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Eric Herman, Chris Huffman, Paul Helton, Rodney Sain, Richard Herman and Heath Woods. The family will be at Hickory Funeral Home from 6 to 8:30 tonight. Ervin Eugene HERMAN was born on 9 February 1930 in Catawba County, North Carolina. He died on 14 December 2007 at the age of 77 in Catawba Valley Dialyses Center, Conover, NC. He was buried in Catawba Memorial Park, Hickory, Catawba County, NC. His obituary appeared as follows: HICKORY - Ervin Eugene Herman, 77, of Hickory, passed away at Catawba Valley Dialyses Center in Conover on Dec. 14, 2007. Born Feb. 9, 1930, in Catawba County, he was the son of the late Milas Ray and Leona Huffman Herman. Mr. Herman was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He owned and operated Sandy Ridge Bait Shop and was a retired upholsterer. He also was a member of Our Savior Lutheran Church of Hickory. Survivors include his loving wife, Virginia Wright Helton Herman of the home; sons, Robert Ray Helton of Claremont, Eric Herman and Christo George Helton and wife, Kelly, both of Hickory and Billy Paul Helton of Conover; daughters, Carmella Helton and husband, Jim, of Granite Falls and Lela Moore of Hickory and Cathy Campbell and husband, Berry, of Maiden; brothers, Carroll Herman of Hickory, Ernest Herman and wife, Mary, of Newton and Robert Herman and wife, Rachel, of Thomasville; sisters, Joyce Shuford and husband, Jerry, and Alma Brown, all of Hickory, Rita Witt and husband, Pete of Lugoff, S.C., Helen Pendleton and husband, Curtis, of Bethlehem and Nola Sain and husband, Tony, of Lincolnton; 16 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. A receiving will be held from 2 to 3:30 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 16, 2007, at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Hickory. A memorial service will follow at 3:30 p.m., with the Rev. Robert Stevens officiating.
