Johnny Andrew PUNCH Sr. was born on 5 May 1923 in Catawba County, North Carolina.1901 He died on 27 July 2010 at the age of 87 in Pallative Care & Hospice of Catawba Valley, Newton, North Carolina. His obituary appeared as follows: HICKORY - Johnny Andrew Punch Sr., 87, of Hickory, died Tuesday, July 27, 2010, at Palliative CareCenter & Hospice of Catawba Valley in Newton. Born on May 5, 1923, in Catawba County, he was the son of the late John Andrew Punch and Beulah Miller Punch. Mr. Punch was a corporal in the United States Army, having served during World War II. He was a dairy farmer for over 60 years in Catawba County in which he received the Farmer of the Year for Farm City Week, a lifelong and active member of St. Timothy Lutheran Church, a charter member of St. Timothy Fire Department and a member of American Legion Post 16 in Newton. He was a member and served on the board of directors for FCX, Southern States and Farm Bureau, and a member of the Cattleman's Association. Johnny's love for life was exceeded only by his love for church, family and friends. He was an inspiration to anyone who knew him. Johnny was passionate about his farming career and was very active in the agricultural community. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Johnny A. Punch Jr.; sisters, Carrie Mitchell and Jessie Baker; and brothers, Carroll Punch, Ray Punch, Frank Punch, Guy Punch, Make Punch and two infant brothers. He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Eunice Lail Punch; daughter, Barbara Blalock and husband, Jerry, of Claremont; daughter-in-law, Judy Punch and husband, Gary, of Hickory; seven grandchildren, Shelly Day of Hickory, Keith Blalock and his fiance, Malina Lovinger, of Asheville, Jennifer White and husband, Steve, of Kings Mountain, Michael Blalock and his wife, Angie, of Conover, Johnny Punch III of Hickory, Robert Punch of Lenior and Andrea Punch of Hickory; six great-grandchildren, Wesley Day, Andy Day, Jerrit Day, Jordan Punch, Zachary Punch and Logan Punch, all of Hickory; sisters, Lena Reinhardt of Raleigh and Alice Wilson of Conover; and personal friends, Jeff Oxentine, Darlene Hicks, Ryan Hicks, Honesty Hicks and Michael Whisnant. A service of remembrance will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, July 30, 2010, at St. Timothy Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Roger Beaver officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends today, Thursday, July 29, 2010, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Drum Funeral Home in Conover. Pallbearers and honorary pallbearers honoring Mr. Punch will be members of the Conover Fire Department. Memorials may be made to St. Timothy Lutheran Church, P.O.
