Martha Ray SIMMONS was born on 21 November 1939 in Catawba County, North Carolina. She died on 18 June 2012 at the age of 72 in Pallative Care & Hospice of Catawba Valley, Newton, North Carolina. Her obituary appeared as follows: Martha Raye Simmons Barnes, age 72, of Claremont passed away on Monday, June 18, 2012 at Palliative CareCenter and Hospice of Catawba Valley in Newton, NC. Born November 21, 1939 in Catawba County, she was the daughter of the late Frank Long and Myrtle Elizabeth Setzer Simmons. Mrs. Barnes had retired from Carolina Mills and was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Conover. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Donald Simmons, and sister, Diane Simmons. Survivors include her daughter, Jeannie Bolick and husband Terry of Hickory; sons, Mark Barnes of Claremont and Jody Barnes of Deep Gap, NC; grandchildren, Mason Barnes, Maggie Barnes and Kalen Bolick; brother, Johnnie Simmons and wife Elaine of Claremont; and sister-in-law, Judy Simmons of Conover. A Service of Remembrance will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, June 20, 2012 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Conover. Rev. Delbert Roth will officiate and burial will follow in Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church Cemetery in Claremont. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday at Drum Funeral Home in Conover. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to: Immanuel Lutheran Church, 2448 Emmanuel Church Road, Conover, NC 28613 or to Palliative CareCenter & Hospice of Catawba Valley, 3975 Robinson Road, Newton, NC 28658.
