742. James Sidney SMYRE¹⁴⁶⁵ was born on 16 March 1858 in Newton, Catawba County, North Carolina.^586,590 He died on 11 February 1941 at the age of 82 in Crosby County, Texas. (not in 1900 Federal census) He was buried in Ralls, Crosby County, Texas. His obituary appeared as follows: James Sidney (Uncle Jimmie) Smyer age 83, long time Crosby County resident died at six o'clock at his residence south of Ralls, pneumonia claimed the life of this old timer. Mrs. Smyer came to Ralls 33 years ago from Arkansas and had been ill about two weeks. Last rites were read Wednesday afternoon at 3:00 o'clock in the First Baptist Church with Elder H. Hall and R. L. Travis officiating. Burial was made in the Ralls Cemetery directed by Marr Funeral Home. Surviving are the wife, a son, Guy of Ralls, five daughters, Mrs. Bertie Vaughn and Mrs. Butler Adams of Ralls, Mrs. S. E. Black of Lorenzo, Mrs. Witt Taylor of Plainview, and Mrs. L. L. Garrison of Corpus Christi; a brother, three sisters and several grandchildren and great grandchildren. The grandsons were the pallbearers and granddaughters the flower girls. James Sidney SMYRE and Dovey Isabelle WHITENER were married on 13 June 1880 in Whitener, Madison County, Arkansas. Dovey Isabelle WHITENER¹⁴⁶⁶, daughter of William Jethro WHITENER and Anna HAWN, was born on 27 May 1863 in Newton, Catawba County, North Carolina. She died on 28 August 1945 at the age of 82 in Ralls, Crosby County, Texas.
