He died on 22 August 2003 at the age of 91 in Catawba Valley Medical Center, Hickory, Catawba County, North Carolina. He was buried in Catawba Memorial Park, Hickory, Catawba County, NC. His obituary appeared as follows: CATAWBA - George Wesley Murray, 91, of Catawba, died Aug. 22, 2003, at Catawba Valley Medical Center. Born July 4, 1912, in Catawba County, he was the son of the late John Lambert Murray Sr. (the former owner and operator of Murray's Mill) and Ola Mingus Murray. He was a member of Catawba United Methodist Church and had retired from the textile industry. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Ruby Bowman Murray; a son Philip Murray; six brothers; and three sisters. Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Steve and Jeanie Murray of Newton; a daughter-in-law, Jo Rainey Murray of Granite Falls; grandchildren, Stephanie Murray of Newton, Tammy Murray of Hickory, and Angela Murray of Hickory; a sister, Ocenia M. Moore of Newton; and special friends, Wilbur and Virginia Hinkley, and Thomas of Catawba. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday, Aug. 25, 2003, at Drum Funeral Home Chapel. Dr. Ed Yount will officiate and burial will follow in Catawba Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday at Drum Funeral Home Chapel. She died on 7 April 1985 at the age of 73 in Catawba, Catawba County, North Carolina. She was buried in Catawba Memorial Park, Hickory, Catawba County, NC.
