Born Sept. 13, 1909, in Catawba County, she was a daughter of the late Hosea Philo and Minnie Bolch Herman. A member of Miller's Lutheran Church, she was a lifelong resident of Catawba County and lifelong member of Miller's Lutheran Church, and a member of the Rachel Circle, Singles Group, Quilters Group and Hill Toppers. Mrs. Setzer passed away at her residence of 67 years with her 11 children and their spouses and many of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren by her side. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Alfred Setzer; a granddaughter, Brandy Elizabeth Bowman; three sisters; and five brothers. Survivors include five daughters, Carrie West and husband, Earnest, Catherine Cruse and husband, Louie, Annie Huffman and husband, J. Donald, Ruby Setzer and Jeannie Bowman of Hickory; six sons, James Setzer and wife, Lou, of Knoxville, Tenn., Grover Setzer and wife, Linda, Thomas Setzer and wife, Debbie, and Lewis Setzer and wife, Lala, of Hickory, and Robert Setzer and wife, Gloria, and Richard Setzer and wife, Sherry, of Granite Falls; 23 grandchildren, Ernie West, Carla Hopkins, Rick West, Earl Setzer, Diane Neal, Patty Stevens, Darlene Weaver, Eddie Cruse, William Setzer, Michael Setzer, Tommy Setzer, Mark Setzer, Kevin Huffman, Denise Shook, Todd Setzer, April Boyd, Robin Blair, Randa Setzer, Rhea Setzer, Thalia Dula, Angie Robinson, Megan Bowman and Erica Bowman; 24 great-grandchildren, Bridget West, Ricky West, Montana Hopkins, Alan Setzer, Tucker Setzer, Wesley O'Brien, Jeremy Stevens, Matt Neal, Emily Neal, Mark Weaver, Courtney Setzer, Kristen Setzer, Payton Setzer, Sierra Setzer, Adelyn Setzer, Morgan Setzer, Kodi Blair, Rheana Blair, Elijah Setzer, Graham Hedrick, Wendy Dula, Jonathan Dula, Evan Robinson and Dylan Sigmon; two great-great-grandchildren, Caden O'Brien and Hailey O'Brien; and a stepgreat-granddaughter, Angela Church. The funeral will be conducted by the Revs. C. Pierson Shaw, John C. Moebius and Luther L. Knauff at 3 p.m. Thursday at Miller's Lutheran Church. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes prior to the service. Burial will be in Catawba Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Eddie Cruse, Kevin Huffman, Earl Setzer, Todd Setzer, Mark Setzer and Rick West. The family will be at the church from 6:30 to 8:30 tonight.
