Vernon Pinkney SIGMON²⁸⁷⁶ was born on 14 October 1917 in Catawba Township, Catawba County, North Carolina.²⁸⁷⁷ He died on 12 September 2002 at the age of 84 in Lutheran Home West, Hickory, North Carolina. He was buried in Hopewell Methodist Church Cemetery, Sherrills Ford, Catawba County, NC. His obituary appeared as follows: Vernon P. Sigmon, age 84, of 6501 Long Island Road in Catawba died Thursday, September 12, 2002, at NC Lutheran Home West in Hickory. Born October 14, 1917 in Catawba County, he was the son of the late Harry Aldolphus and Bessie Setzer Sigmon. He was a lifelong member of Hopewell United Methodist Church and a farmer and a retired employee of Broyhill Furniture in Conover. He was a member of Woodmen of the World. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Cordie Mavalene Jones Sigmon. Survivors include a daughter & son-in-law, Beda Sigmon and Tommy Wray of Catawba; 2 brothers, Floyd Sigmon and Robert Sigmon both of Catawba; 2 sisters, Flossie Sigmon and Mae Hollifield both of Catawba; a step-brother, Kenneth Sigmon of Catawba; 2 step-sisters, Mary Sigmon and Margaret Parker both of Claremont; 3 grandchildren, Steve Wray, Danny Wray and Darlene Wray Little of Catawba; 4 great grandchildren, Keith Wray, Justin Mosteller, Stephanie Wray and Heather Wray; and 2 step great great grandchildren, William Wray and Thomas Wither The funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 15, 2002 at Hopewell United Methodist Church. The Rev. Tamera Wensil will officiate and burial will follow in the church cemetery. Pallbearers will be Steve Wray, Danny Wray, Thomas Withers, Keith Wray, Justin Mosteller and Brian Woodruff. The family will receive friends from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. on Sunday in the Fellowship Hall of the church, prior to the service. Cordie Mavalene JONES²⁸⁷⁶, daughter of Charles Lester JONES and Nettie "Corray" Lee WILSON, was born on 12 July 1920 in Catawba Township, Catawba County, North Carolina.²⁸⁷⁷ She died before September 2002 at the age of 82.
