Avery Alphonso SIPE was born on 13 March 1914 in Catawba County, North Carolina. He died on 25 August 2005 at the age of 91 in Abernethy Laurels, Newton, North Carolina. He was buried in Mount Zion Lutheran Church Cemetery, Conover, North Carolina. His obituary appeared as follows: NEWTON - Mr. Avery Alphonso Sipe, 91, of Abernethy Laurels in Newton and formerly of County Home Road in Conover, passed away Thursday, Aug. 25, 2005, at Abernethy Laurels. Born March 13, 1914, in Catawba County, he was the son of the late Vance and Mary Lail Sipe. He was a member of Mount Zion Lutheran Church in Conover and retired from Southern Furniture. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by five sisters, Clora Cline, Vela Eckard, Retta Hedrick, Pauline Huffman and Floy Prestwood; and two brothers, Earl Sipe and O.E. Sipe. Survivors include his wife of 73 years, Vergie Mae Keller Sipe of the home; two brothers, Richard V. Sipe and Harvey L. Sipe of Conover; and a number of nieces and nephews. A service of remembrance will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 27, 2005, at Mount Zion Lutheran Church. The Revs. Dr. David M. Seymour and Kristine Hill will officiate and the burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends prior to the service in the church’s family life center from 1 to 1:45 p.m. Saturday. Memorials may be made to Mount Zion Lutheran Church, 4420 County Home Road, Conover, N.C. 28613 or Abernethy Laurels, 102 Leonard Ave., Newton, N.C. 28658.
