Osborne Leroy HEFNER , Sr. was born on 4 April 1917 in Catawba County, North Carolina. He died on 30 May 2008 at the age of 91 in Pallative Care & Hospice of Catawba Valley, Newton, North Carolina. He was buried in St. Peter's Lutheran Church cemetery, north of Conover, Catawba County, NC. His obituary appeared as follows: CONOVER - Osborne Leroy Hefner Sr., 91, of conover, passed away Friday, May 30, 2008, at Palliative CareCenter & Hospice of Catawba Valley. Mr. Hefner was born April 4, 1917, in Catawba County to the late Oscar O. Hefner and Mamie Coons Hefner. He was a lifelong member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church and retired after 43 years at Southern Furniture Co. Mr. Hefner was a man who truly loved the Lord. He was also a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He enjoyed his family, gardening and was an avid rabbit hunter. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Louise Little Hefner; son, Bobby Lee Hefner; brothers, Howard Hefner, Harry Hefner, Edward Hefner and Clement Hefner; and sisters, Helen Hefner and Netta Stilwell. Mr. Hefner is survived by his wife of 24 years, Joyce Hefner of the home; sons and daughter-in-law, Osborne "Oz" L. Hefner Jr. and Brenda of Conover, and Henry Shook of Conover; daughters and sons-in-law, Martha Stewart and Johnny of Conover, Sheila Dowdy and Joe of Conover and Tina Shook of Newton; sister, Virginia Sigmon of Conover; grandchildren, Melinda Stewart, Somer Hefner Cox, Gabrielle Dowdy, Stephen Stewart and Alex Dowdy; and a great-grandchild, Aidan Cox. A Service of Remembrance will be held at 7 p.m. Monday, June 2, 2008, at St. Peter's Lutheran Church, with the Revs. Paul D. Birner and Delbert Roth officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5 to 6:45 p.m., prior to the service at the church. Pallbearers will be Henry Shook, Claude Fulbright, Greg Stilwell, Trevor Murphy, Cory Miller and Chad Cox. Honorary pallbearers will be Joe Dellinger, C.J. Scott, Jerry Scott, Darrell Freeman and Richard Sigmon.
