MOSER, JASON CHRYSOSTOM, born Nov. 18, 1849, in Cabarrus Co. Parents: The Rev. Timothy and Margaret M. (Hedrick) Moser. The Rev. Daniel Moser was his grandfather, the Rev. Jonathan Moser an uncle, and the Rev. John F. Moser his brother. Educated: N. C. Coll., A.B. 1873, D.D.: studied theology under his father. Married Elizabeth Colclough Lee, Union Co., Dee. 25, 1873. Children: Arthur Lee, Claude Albert, Leslie Rupert, Virginia Beatrice. Ordained deacon 1873 and pastor 1876 by Tenn. Synod. In ministry of 38 years he. served 20 churches in nine N. C. counties: (1873-82) Mt. Moriah, Phanuel. and organized St. Mark, Rowan Co.; Morning Star, Mecklenburg Co.; and Emmanuel. Union Co.; (1882-88, while professor, later president, of Concordia Coll., at Conover) St. Martin-Sharon, Iredell Co.; St. John, Concordia, and Zion, Catawba Co.: and reorganized Beth Eden, Newton; (1888-1911) Holy Trinity, Hickory; St. Paul, Startown (two years); and Calvary, Claremont-Salem, for 9 mos. before his death; occas. supply, Mt. Pleasant, Watauga Co.. 1889: Philadelphia, Granite Falls; supply with the Rev. W. P. Cline, St. John, Statesville, a few years; organized Mt. Hebron, Hildebran, 1904-06:. Friendship, Alexander Co.. 1906-07. Taught school at China Grove in first pastorate, and at other times. Professor, 1882-88, Concordia Coll., and president, 1886-88. A founder, with the Revs. W. P. A scholarly and forceful preacher, learned theologian, ironic debater in theological controversy, speaker for the cause of temperance, orderly keeper of records, and a great teacher, lie was referred to in one obituary as "the Christian diplomat and statesman of the Tennessee Synod in his generation," and in another it was written: "Dr. Moser was a well-rounded man. He wa.s a model in all the relations of life which he sustained, (as) husband and father, preacher, pastor, theologian, teacher, leader in church and community, and practical man of affairs."
