Currituck County Photographs
William W. Morrisette/Baker Family |
|
The photo was taken circa 1908. William W. "Bill" Morrisette
was a farmer and worked in the winter as a marsh guard at The Currituck
Shooting Club.
William's parents were Nathan Franklin Morrisette/Baker & Sarah "Sally" Gilden. Nathan is listed in the 1850 Coinjock area living with 75-year old Christopher Baker. He was age 20 and his name then was Nathan "Morriss". In 1860 Nathan was age 29 and living in the Narrow Shore area with a family of his own and was listed as Nathan "Morrisett" where William is 7 months old. By 1870 Nathan had changed his name to Nathan Baker and there are 8 children in the household (including "Billie" who is age 12). By 1880 Nathan was a widower and had changed his last name back to "Morrisette". All children in that census are listed as Morrisette's instead of Baker and William is listed as age 20.
