EX NORTH CAROLINA CONGRESSMAN DIES |

Dr. Henry Plummer Cheatham, 76, a former Congressman from the Second District of North Carolina, died on
Friday at the Oxford Orphanage which he had served as superintendent for twenty-eight years. Dr. Cheatham, recognized by prominent white
leaders, as well as members of his own race, was elected to Congress in 1887. He was born in Granville County in 1857, and attended Shaw
University, Raleigh, where he received his B. A. degree. He is survived by: widow, the former Laura Joyner, and the following sons and
daughters: Charlie E. Cheatham, Oxford; Henry Jr., Philadelphia; Richard and Laura J. Cheatham, Oxford, and Mrs. Mamie C. Wormley, Washington
