DAVID BRADFORD to LEWIS TAYLOR- 1793
Deed Book P, Pages 15
This Indenture made this Eighteenth day of June & in the Year of Our
Lord 1793 between DAVID BRADFORD of the State of North Carolina &
County of Granville of the one part & LEWIS TAYLOR of this sd. State
& County of the other part Witnesseth that the sd. DAVID BRADFORD
JN. for & in consideration of the sum of three hundred pounds
current money of Virg'a the Rec't of which he doth hereby
acknowledge discharge & acquit the sd. LEWIS TAYLOR his heirs &
assigns forever have bargained sold released & confirmed & by these
presents doth bargain sell release & confirm to the sd. LEWIS TAYLOR
his heirs & assigns forever one certain tract or parcel of land
situate lying & being in the sd. State of North Carolina & County of
Granville it being the whole of the land left to me by my father
THOMAS BRADFORD Sen'r deceased bounded by PHILIP BRADFORD JUN'R,
DAVID BRADFORD SEN'R, and the lands of JOHN BRADFORD containing by
estimation five hundred acres be the same more or less together with
all houses, orchards, waters, woods, ways, paths, profits, &
appurtenances thereunto belonging or in anywise appertaining to the
sd. LEWIS TAYLOR his heirs & assigns forever to have & to hold the
above granted land & premises & all and singular the premises to the
sd. LEWIS TAYLOR his heirs & assigns forever the sd. DAVID BRADFORD
JUN'R doth hereby warrant and grant that the above granted land &
premises & every part thereof to the sd. LEWIS TAYLOR his heirs &
assigns shall & will warrant & forever defend by these presents and
that the sd. LEWIS TAYLOR at all times forever hereafter may
peaceably & quickly have hold & occupy possess & enjoy the same. In
witness whereof I the sd. DAVID BRADFORD have hereunto set his hand
& seal the day & year first above written.

HOWEL & HENRY BRIGGS to DAVID J. YOUNG- 1841

4th day of Nov 1841
The purport of this agreement showeth that HOWELL BRIGGS & HENRY
BRIGGS hired for the present year from DAVID J. YOUNG a Negro man
CASWELL for the sum of one hundred & thirty dollars (the sd
YOUNG finding clothes & bord [sic] for sd Negro) to be due as the
work was rendered & due in all the 25th December next the said
HOWELL being liable for two thirds & the said HENRY for one third of
the hire and the said HOWELL being indebted to the said D. J. YOUNG
in the further sum of $26.45, with int. from the 31st day of Dec'r
last. Now for the purpose of securing to the said DAVID J. YOUNG &
his heirs the prompt & faithful payment of the aforesaid sums of
money to be paid by or before the said 25th day of Dec'r next and at
a pledge for the prompt payment of the same we the said HOWELL
BRIGGS & HENRY BRIGGS do hereby grant assign makeover alien &
deliver unto him the said DAVID J. YOUNG & his heirs forever all the
monies which now is due on our shop books & also all that may be due
on the 25th day of Dec'r next and do hereby give him the said YOUNG
full ample legal & complete authority to collect the same also we
further assign & deliver the books containing the accts also one bay
mare, one clock & one feather bed & furniture and one no horn cow &
one pine cupbord and we hereby agree that if the aforementioned
debts shall not be promptly paid by the said 25th day of Dec'r next
that the said YOUNG is hereby authorised to collect the debts as
well before as after the said 25th day of Dec'r next that may be due
on the shop books and after that time to dispose of the other
property for the purpose of raising money to discharge the said
debts- and to apply the same to the discharge of them until the
whole is paid but it is distinctly understood that this assignment
may be recorded at any time either before or after the above named
day by the discharge of the said debts. In witness whereof we have
hereunto set our hands & seals this day & year first above written.

JOHN BULLOCK to WILLIAM FLEMING- 1845

This Indenture made and entered into this 2 day of April A.D. one
thousand eight hundred and forty five between JOHN D. BULLOCK
trustee for JAMES HEFLIN and Wife of the first part and WILLIAM
FLEMING of the second part all of the County of Granville and State
of North Carolina witnesseth that whereas the aforesaid JAMES HEFLIN
and wife MARTHA executed to the aforesaid JOHN D. BULLOCK their deed
for the following property to wit one tract of land containing two
hundred and forty acres adjoining the lands of the aforesaid JOHN D.
BULLOCK, OBEDIAH WINSTON, WILLIS B. MITCHELL & others also their
interest in another tract of land in same County containing three
hundred and fifty eight acres of land adjoining the land of E. H.
CARTER & others also Negroes DANIEL, JERRY, ISBEL, ALFRED,
CHARITY, NANCY, CHARLOTTE, LUCY, NATHAN, BECKY, SALLY, ELIAS & ELIZA.
And whereas the aforesaid deed as first proved that the said JOHN D.
BULLOCK at the request of the said WILLIAM FLEMING shall advertise &
sell the said property and the aforesaid JOHN D. BULLOCK having duly
advertised the same to be sold at Wilton on the 2nd day of April
1845 being this day and having offered the same agreeable to the
provision of said Deed in Trust and WILLIAM FLEMING being then and
there the last and highest bidder at the price of three hundred and
fifty dollars the same was struck off to him now for deed in
consideration of the premises and for and in consideration of the
sum of three hundred and fifty dollars to the said JOHN D. BULLOCK
Trustee as aforesaid in hand paid by the said WILLIAM FLEMING the
receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged hath bargained sold and
delivered and by these presents doth bargain sell and deliver unto
the said WILLIAM FLEMMING and his heirs and assigns forever all the
before mentioned property it being all the property conveyed in said
deed in Trust to the said JOHN D. BULLOCK which Deed in Trust
appears of record in the Registers office of Granville County and
registered on the 14th day of October A.D. 1842 in Book 11, Page 470
to have and to hold the aforesaid land and Negroes to him the said
WM FLEMMING and his heirs and assign forever. And the aforesaid JOHN
D. BULLOCK Trustee as aforesaid for himself his heirs Exc'rs &
administrators hereby warrants and defends the title of the
aforesaid lands and Negroes to him the said WM. FLEMMING & his heirs
and assigns forever so fair as title is noted in him as Trustee as
aforesaid and no further. In witness whereof the said JOHN D.
BULLOCK Trustee hath hereunto set his hand & seal this day & date
first above written.
