Know all men by these presents that I JAMES WEATHERS of sd State and County for & in consideration of the sum of two hundred dollars to me in hand paid by DICK H. DOLBY of said County & State at or before the sealing and delivery of these presents the receipt whereof I the said JAMES WETHERS[sic] do hereby acknowledge have granted, bargained and sold and by these present do grant bargain and sell unto the said DICK H. DOLBY his Executors, Administrators & assigns, a Negro girl named EMMELLY aged Eleven years to have and to hold all and singular the right & title to the same to the said DICK H. DOLBY his Executors Administrators & Assigns forever & I the said JAMES WEATHERS for myself my heirs Executors & Administrators do warrant and defend the right and title of the said granted Negro and her increase from me my heirs Executors Administrators &c from all persons whatsoever and free from all incumbrances whatever as witness whereof I hereunto set my hand and seal this 21st day of June A.D. 1824.

DANIEL WILLIAMS, Slave Deed of Sale (1792)
To JOHN WILLIAMS & JOHN WILLIAMS JR.

Know all men by these presents that I DANIEL WILLIAMS SEN'R of the State aforesaid and County aforesaid for and in consideration of the sum of Fifteen Hundred pounds Virginia currency to me in hand paid by JOHN WILLIAMS son of DANIEL and JOHN WILLIAMS JUN'R both of the state of South Carolina and of the district of Ninety Six The receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged that I have bargained and sold and by these prsents do actually bargain, sell and deliver, unto the Two said JOHN WILLIAMS Twenty Seven Negroe Slaves (viz) PHILL a man of about fourty years old, JACK a man of about thirty five years old, WILL, a man of about thirty five years old KEEZEOR a man of about Twenty two years old, MOSES a boy of about Eighteen years old; HARRY a boy of about Eighteen years old; JACOB a boy of about Eighteen years old JUDEY a woman of about Twenty years old, ISBELL a woman of about Twenty Two years old; RUTH, a girl of about of fourteen years old, EASTER a girl of about fourteen years old; ROSE a woman of about Thirty five years old; AGGY, a woman of about Thirty five years old; AARON, a boy of about Nine years old, JOHN a boy about Six years old; DAVE a boy about Six years old; FRANKEY a woman about fourty years old; SUKEY a girl about Twelve years old, SARAH a girl about Nine years old; EDOM _____about three years old; LITTLEFILL a ______ about three years old; SOLOMON a small male child about Nine months old, GEORGE a small male child about one year old; JAMES a small boy about four years old; LOTT a girl about Eleven years old; & WINNEY a small girl about Two years old and MORRIS a male child about Ten months old. To have and to hold the said bargained premises PHILL, JACK, WILL, KEEZER, MOSES, HARRY, JACOB, JUDY, ISABELL, RUTH, EASTER, ROSE, AGGY, AARON, JOHN, DAVE, FRANKEY, SUKEY, SARAH, EDOM, LITTLEFILL, SOLOMON, GEORGE, JAMES, LOTT, WINNEY & MORRIS, unto the two aforesaid JOHN WILLIAMS their heirs and assigns to her and there proper use benefit and behoof forever, I the said DANIEL WILLIAMS for myself my heirs and assigns do warrant and defend against the claims or claims of all and every person or persons whatsoever.
In witness whereof have hereunto set my hand and annexed my seal this Twenty third day of July one thousand Seven hundred & ninety two.

To All to Whom these Presents shall come &c

Whereas by a Deed bearing date the Twenty third day of July in the Year of Our Lord One thousand Seven Hundred and Ninety Two, DANIEL WILLIAMS late of North Carolina did convey to his Brother JOHN WILLIAMS S.D. and to JOHN WILLIAMS JUN'R Twenty Seven Negros by a certain bill of Sale hereunto annexed whose names are therein set forth &c And whereas it appears that the said Negroes aforesaid were conveyed to them the said JNO WILLIAMS S.D. and JOHN WILLIAMS JUN'R deceased in secret trust and confidence &c and whereas the said JOHN WILLIAMS S.D. did on the Twentieth day of April in the year of Lord one thousand & Seven hundred and Ninety Three give and perfect to the said DANIEL WILLIAMS aforesaid a gen'l release and quit claim of the said property &c which i hereunto also annexed &c and whereas the said JOHN WILLIAMS JUN'R Deceased in his lifetime appointed and authorised me as his Atty or Trustee to settle the said business aforesaid with the said DAN'L WILLIAMS aforesaid and again in his last Will direct the same &c and whereas the Exrs to his Estate by the said last Will appointed have fully and absolutely authorised and appointed me to settle and close al the disputes & acc'ts &c between the said DAN'L & the said JOHN WILLIAMS JUN'R (Deceased) and whereas I JOHN WALLACE as the Trustee &c and the said DAN'L WILLIAMS to avoyd the trouble and expense of law have mutually consented an agreed to leave all the said disputes and accts aforesaid to the final ending and determination of JOHN SATTERWHITE SEN'R and JAMES CALDWELL and their award to be final and conclusive &c and whereas it appeared that the said JOHN WILLIAMS S.D. (Deceased) and JOHN WILLIAMS JUN'R (Deceased) did not pay, or contract to pay any money or other consideration for the said Negroes aforesaid &c &c in which case the said arbitrators aforesaid in their said award directs the said Bill of sail [sic] to be delivered up to the said DAN'L WILLIAMS, and to be made voyd and utterly frustrate &c &c.
Now Know ye that I JOHN WALLACE as the Atty and Trustee to and for the said Estate aforesaid, by virtue of the power and authority vested in me, for the said JOHN WILLIAMS JUN'R (Deceased) his heirs &c ratify and confirm to the said DAN'L WILLIAMS his heirs &c the said gen'l release (against the said Bill of Sale) by the said JOHN WILLIAMS S.D. made as aforesaid and do hereby declare the said Bill of Sale or the Twenty Seven Negroes beforesaid to be utterly Frustrate null & Voyd to all intence and purposes whatsoever. I Witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and affixed my Seal this 21st day of March 1795.

Know all men whom it may concern that I have this ay bargained and sold and by these presents do bargain sell deliver unto ROBERT A. JENKINS a Negro man named ARTHER for the sum of Three hundred dollars to me in hand paid- the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledge. The right and title of said Negro I will ever warrent and defend against the claim or claims of all persons whatsoever, as given under my hand and seal this the 21st day of January 1840.

I have this day sold to RICHARD SNEED at public sale Negro man CHARLES for the sum of Three hundred and Eighty two Dollars for which he has given me his bond with ROBERT JENKINS security payable 18 May 1840. I hereby as Executor of my Father dec'd guarantee a good perfect title to him & will ever defend the same to him as an Executor aforesaid.

This Indenture made this the 2 day of November 1841 between WM D. WORTHAM & FANNY A. WORTHAM his wife, of the County of Granville & State of North Carolina of the one part & JOHN P. BLACKWELL & WM M. BLACKWELL of the aforesaid county & state of other part witnesseth that the said WM D. WORTHAM & FANNY A. WORTHAM his wife for and in consideration of the sum of seven hundred dollars cash paid in hand the receipt of which is hereby acknowledged hath this day granted bargained sold and confirmed and by these presents doth bargain sell and confirm unto the said JOHN P. BLACKWELL & WM. M. BLACKWELL all our right title and interest to one third part of a certain tract or parcel of land lying and being in the County of Granville and State aforesaid on the waters of Big Island Creek containing four hundred acres more or less bounded as follows beginning at a red oak in GLOVER's thence by a line of marked trees North 86 East 38 chains and ten links to a red oak upon a ridge thence West 25 chains to a port oak about fifteen steps east of a branch thence South 29 chains & 20 links to a red oak saplin in BULLOCK's line thence by BULLOCK line to Big Island Creek thence down said creek as it meanders to a bunch of Hornbeams on the bank of said creek SUSAN DAVIS Corner thence by DAVIS' line various courses to said DAVIS & GLOVERs line to the first station the title of said land together with all things appertaining thereto We WM D. WORTHAM & FANNY A. WORTHAM his wife do warrant and defend unto the said JOHN P. & WM. M. BLACKWELL and their heirs and assigns forever against the claim or claims of any person or persons whomsoever In testimony whereof we have hereunto set our hands and seals on the day and date above written.

A Deed from FANNY A. WORTHAM, WILLIAM D. WORTHAM to JOHN P. BLACKWELL and WILLIAM M. BLACKWELL for their interest in a tract of land was exhibited in open court and the execution thereof acknowledged by them in the presence of each other; on motion ordered that JOHN C. TAYLOR Esquire a member of the court be appointed to take the private examination of the said FANNY A., whether she doth voluntarily assent tot he execution of the same & to report to this court and the said JOHN C. TAYLOR having privately examined said FANNY A. reported as follows; I JOHN C. TAYLOR a member of Granville County Court having been appointed to take the private examination of FANNY A. WORTHAM the feme covert certifty that I privately examined her separate and apart from her said husband and she acknowledged that she had executed said deed freely of her own accord without restraint or compulsion on the part of her said husband. Nov. 4, 1841 - on motion ordered that said deed be admitted to probte and registration.
