In Pursuit of Edward Patrick Davis |
Augusta Chronicle (Georgia) May 23, 1807 |
In consequence of Edward Patrick, who
calls himself Edward P. Davis, who married Mrs. Ragland
sometime past in Petersburg, under a colour of having been divorced
from his wife in North Carolina, having asserted some tales in that
town and the neighborhood thereof, injurious to my credit, and they
being a wilful lie, I have thought proper to publish some
certificates to show the public, what a rascal the said Patrick
is. |

We the subscribers, residents in Warren and
Granville Counties, North Carolina, do hereby certify that we are
well acquainted with Edward Patrick Davis, sometimes called
Edward Davis Patrick; that the said Patrick absconded
from his residence in Warren county, in the year 1806; that he left
a wife and one child, both of whom are now alive; and we are further
confident that he has not been divorced from his said wife; as a
divorce can only be effected in this state by an act of the
legislature, and no such act has passed at the last, or any other
session of our legislature; nor did we ever hear, nor do we believe
that any attempt to obtain a divorce was made. |
