Wake County Yearbooks

Wake County is home to many educational institutions and I’m slowly building up the Education page with their information.  Tonight, I’ve added links to the growing collection of yearbooks that the University of North Carolina is adding to the Internet Archive website for schools around the state.   Particularly of interest for Wake County are:

  • North Carolina State University – to date, they have all the yearbooks online from 1903-2009!
  • Meredith College – these are just beginning to be added; to date, they have issues spanning 1904-1913 and I am sure more will be added soon.

Not only is Wake County represented, but they also have yearbooks for:

  • Appalachaian State University
  • Duke University
  • Elizabeth City State University (African-American)
  • Elon University
  • Louisburg College
  • UNC-Chapel Hill
  • UNC- Greensboro

From the Wake County Education page, I’ve linked to the overall yearbooks page we’ve created for sharing across the NCGenWeb project.  You should definitely take the time to explore; you may find your ancestor’s yearbook photo.  I found three of my family members in the yearbooks for ESCU and I’m hopeful I’ll find more!

Looking for a Will?

I’ve added a new page to the site for listing resources that may be helpful if you’re looking for a will.  Currently, there are only two links, but over time the list will continue to grow.

On the page you will find a link to an index from the book “Wake County, North Carolina Abstracts of Wills, Inventories, and Settlements of Estates: 1771-1802” published in 1984 by Frances Holloway Wynne.  Her book includes a listing of all individuals abstracted as well as slave names mentioned in the wills.   You can view the index directly or by by going to the Wills page.

New Site for Wake County

Welcome to this new site for Wake County!  As the home county to our state capitol, Wake County has been a place of great historical significance to the state.  It is my hope that this site will grow tremendously to offer and help you find information about your ancestors and persons of genealogical interest.

I became county coordinator and launched this new site January 1, 2010.  Over the next few weeks I’ll address a few style issues (pardon some of the text inconsistencies) and add basic information about research & records in the county.   Please bear with me!

You can follow the progress of site content by subscribing to the RSS feed.  I’ll also soon create a way for you to receive updates via email.

All contributions are welcome and will greatly enhance this site! Please feel free to contact me if you have questions.

If you would like to know more about me personally, please visit my family website and genealogy blog.

Welcome to Wake County.
