Thirty-Seventh Regt. U.S.C. Infantry
HISTORY OF COMPANY "B"
Company B was organized at the entrenched camp, near Norfolk, Virginia, February 4th, 1864, by Captain Daniel FOSTER, who commanded it until September 30th, 1864, when he was killed in the battle of Fort Harrison, Virginia. Lieutenant George W. SINGER, Company F, being on duty with the Company, assumed command and brought it from the field, after several hours hard fighting, retaining command until October, 1864, when he was appointed Acting Adjutant of the regiment and promoted First Lieutenant for services at the battle of Fort Harrison. The Company has seen very hard service, being composed of brave, gallant and hardy soldiers and commanded by brave and efficient officers.

Commissioned Officers
Daniel FOSTER - Captain. Appointed October 1, 1863; was killed in action at the battle of Fort Harrison, Virginia, September 30, 1864.
Hiram L. MARVIN - Captain. Appointed November 7, 1863, vice Foster, deceased. Captured by the rebels at Plymouth, North Carolina. Exchanged and honorably discharged June 22, 1865.
J. E. FARNSWORTH - Captain. Entered the United States service May 21, 1861; has served during the war; was appointed captain in the regiment June 6, 1865.
Robert G. WESTACOTT - First Lieutenant. Appointed in October, 1863. Died September 13, 1864.
McKendree SHAW - First Lieutenant. Appointed December 8, 1864. Discharged on resignation.
Owen A. HENDRICK - Second Lieutenant. Appointed October 1, 1863. Promoted to First Lieutenant October, 1864. Promoted Captain and transferred to 36th U.S.C.I.
Jesse W. GRAY - Second Lieutenant. Appointed March 15, 1865. Promoted First Lieutenant February 7, 1866.

Charles F. BLY - First Sergeant. Enlisted January 20, 1864, at Boston, Massachusetts. Appointed Sergeant-Major February 4, 1864. Discharged for promotion as Second Lieutenant 36th U.S.C.I., November 25, 1864.
Edward WILLIAMS - First Sergeant. Promoted to Second Lieutenant and transferred to Company E, 37th U.S.C.I., June 20, 1865, by order of Secretary of War. Discharged on resignation May 22, 1866.
William T. SWINSON - First Sergeant. Enlisted January 9, 1864, at Plymouth, North Carolina. Appointed Corporal May 1, 1865. Promoted Sergeant July 1, 1865; First Sergeant April 1, 1866.
Andrew PERRY - Sergeant. Enlisted January 17, 1864, at Plymouth, North Carolina. Promoted Sergeant March 1, 1864.
James N. JACOBS - Sergeant. Enlisted January 17, 1864, at Plymouth, North Carolina. Promoted Sergeant March l, 1864.
