Her obituary read as follows: HICKORY — Margaret Day Brooks, 90, of Hickory, died June 23, 2003, at Frye Regional Medical Center. Born Sept. 14, 1912, in Catawba County, she was a daughter of the late George W. and Flora Wilson Day. A member of West Hickory Baptist Church, she worked in the hosiery industry. She was preceded in death by her husband, Clyde Clifford Brooks, a brother, and four sisters. Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Barbara and Charles Litaker of Hickory and Martha and Larry Alexander of Granite Falls; two granddaughters, Leslie Kale of Connelly Springs and Amy Alexander of Granite Falls; a great-grandson, Alexander Kale of Connelly Springs; and a great-granddaughter, Callista Kale of Connelly Springs. The funeral will be conducted by the Revs. Michael Staten and E.B. Elmore at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Bass-Smith Funeral Home. Burial will be in Catawba Memorial Park. Memorials may be made to West Hickory Baptist Church, 40 Twelfth St., NW, Hickory, N.C. 28601. Bass-Smith Funeral Home is serving the Brooks family.
