62, of 630 N. Ashe Ave., Newton, NC died Sunday,
September 8, 2002 at Frye Regional Medical Center. Born
February 5, 1940 in Washington, D.C., she was the
daughter of the late Joshua M. and Bernice Phelps Tyler.
She was a charter member of Calvary Baptist Church where
she served as the first organist as well as a Sunday
School Teacher and Bible School Teacher and was employed
by Newton-Conover City Schools for 28 years. In addition
to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband,
George Thomas Tommy Day. Survivors include: 2
daughters & sons-in-law: Nancy & Vic Glenn of
Hickory, NC Patti & Frank Harris of St. Louis, MO 2
sons & daughters-in-law: Mike & Teri Day of
Thomasville, NC Robert & Lea Day of Newton, NC
Mother-in-Law: Mrs. Ida Day of Hickory, NC Sister &
Brother-in-Law: Mrs. Carol and Dr. Carter Sinclair of
Hickory, NC Brother-in-Law: Allen Day Jerry Day
Sister-in-Law: Donna Buff 7 Grandchildren Lauren Glenn

The funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM, Wednesday,
September 11, 2002 at Calvary Baptist Church. The Revs.
Fred Thompson and Randy Cowan will officiate and burial
will be in Eastview Cemetery. The casket will be placed
in the church 30 minutes prior to the service. Ushers
from Calvary Baptist Church will serve as pallbearers and
honorary pallbearers will be sons & sons-in-law, Dr.
Carter Sinclair, Larry Red Self, Arthur
Ott Dillingham, Grady Hefner and Jim McRee.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, September 10,
2002 at Willis-Reynolds Funeral Home from 7:00 PM until
8:30 PM. Memorials may be made to: Calvary Baptist Church
