William L. HERMAN was born about 15 February 1836 in Alexander County, North Carolina. His record in the War Between the States is as follows:110 HERMAN, WILLIAM L., Private, Company E, 32nd Regiment, NC Troops - Resided in Alexander County and enlisted in Catawba County at age 23, October 25, 1861. Present or accounted for until wounded in the thigh and captured at Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, July 1-4, 1863. Hospitalized at Gettysburg. Transferred to hospital at Davids Island, New York Harbor, on or about July 20, 1863. Paroled at Davids Island and transferred to City Point, Virginia, where he was received on September 16, 1863, for exchange. Died at home in Alexander County on or about January 21, 1864, of wounds. He died on 21 January 1864 at the age of 27 in Alexander County, North Carolina. He was buried in St. John's Lutheran Church (MO Synod) Cemetery, Conover, Catawba County, NC.

His record in the War Between the States is as follows:111 HERMAN, LEANDER, Private, Company E, 32nd Regiment, NC Troops - Resided in Alexander County and enlisted in Catawba County at age 21, August 28, 1862, for the war. Present or accounted for until wounded in the thigh at or near Spotsylvania Court House, Virginia, on or about May 10, 1864. Died on May 17, 1864, of wounds. Place of death not reported. He died on 17 May 1864 at the age of 24.
