St. Stephen Baptist Church Cemetery Directions from Post Office (143 North Main Street): go South on North Main St..US-158 BR/NC-58 for 0.1 miles towards South Main St. Turn left on East Macon Street/US-158 BR/NC-58, continue on NC-58 East towards Liberia for 4.7 miles; turn slight right at Liberia, on NC-58, continue on for 8.6 miles (passing Inez along the way), until St. Stephen Baptist Church, at number 3319 on NC-58. St. Stephen Church is a beautiful red-bricked building, trimmed in white, including the upper portions and the steeple top, built in 1920 on 3 acres of land. The surrounding cemetery is well-kept and still in use, with the oldest marked grave dated in 1940. There are some 229 marked graves with many ALSTON, PERRY, and WILLIAMS names, most of whom were from the surrounding Township. |
