AGGA JONES to EADY CARTER- 1799 |
Know all men by these presents that I AGGA JONES
of Warren County &c for and in consideration of the sum of 5 pound
V. money in hand paid by EADY CARTER have bargained and sold and by
these presents doth bargain and sell unto the said CARTER her heirs
a certain Negro Man by the name of PHILL about thirty eight
years of age. Witness my hand and Seal this 21st day of October
1799. |

PETER JONES to THOMAS H. DAVIS- 1805 |
Know all men by these presents that I PETER JONES
of the County of Warren & State of No. Carolina have by these
presents bargained sold & delivered to THOMAS H. DAVIS of the County
and State aforesaid a certain Negro woman named SCILLIA for
and in consideration of the sum of Ninety five pounds same in hand
paid the receipt whereof I do hereby acknowledge and myself
therewith fully satisfy'd and contented & I do more over covenant to
and with the said THOMAS H. DAVIS that I am possessed of a good and
absolute title in fee simple of the said Negro free from all claims
and that I will for myself my Executors & Admin's warrant and
forever defend the title hereby conveyed to the said THOMAS H. DAVIS
his heirs Excrs. admins. whereof my hand and seal the ninth day of
January 1805. |

This Indenture made and entered into this 27th day of December in
the year of Our Lord One thousand eight hundred and sixty seven,
between WILLIAM D. JONES of the County of Warren and State of North
Carolina, of the first part, and CHRISTOPHER C. CHRISTMAS, a
freedman, formerly a slave of LEWIS Y. CHRISTMAS, deceased, of said
County of the second part, Witnesseth whereas the said LEWIS Y.
CHRISTMAS in his will bequeathed a legacy of Ten thousand dollars to
certain of his slaves in said will named, and in the proportions
therein stated, which legacy was charged on the residue of his
estate, real and personal which was devised and bequeathed by his
said will to the said WILLIAM D. JONES; and whereas a suit was
lately brought in the Court of Equity of Warren County aforesaid, in
the name of the said legatees against JOSEPH S. JONES, Executor of
the said LEWIS Y. CHRISTMAS and others, for the recovery of the said
legacy, which at the last term thereof was transferred to the
Supreme Court, in which said suit the said CHRISTOPHER C. CHRISTMAS
is one of the parties; and whereas it has been agreed between the
parties to this deed that the said WILLIAM D. JONES is to convey to
the said CHRISTOPHER C. CHRISTMAS, in fee simple, a certain tract or
parcel of land hereinafter described, in full satisfaction and
discharge of his share the said legacy, and that the said
CHRISTOPHER C. CHRISTMAS in consideration thereof, should release
all claim to any part of said legacy to the said JOSEPH S. JONES,
Executor as aforesaid, and the said WILLIAM D. JONES; and whereas
the said CHRISTOPHER C. CHRISTMAS has this day executed a release
according to the said agreement. Now this Indenture witnesseth that
the said WM. D. JONES, in consideration of the premises and the
further consideration of the sum of one dollar to him paid by the
said CHRISTOPHER C. CHRISTMAS before the execution of this deed (the
receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged) hath bargained, sold and
conveyed and doth hereby bargain, sell and convey unto the said
CHRISTOPHER C. CHRISTMAS, and his heirs and assigns forever, the
said tract of land, situated in Warren County aforesaid on the road
leading from Warrenton to Louisburg, containing about ninety four
acres and bounded as follows: Beginning at a small cedar on the
south side of said road and running south 24 E 120 poles to a bunch
of gums on the South side of the Long branch, thence down said
branch, to where the old road crosses; then leaving the branch by
said old road North 1½ East 50 poles, then North 10 West 20 poles 20
links to Ransom's old corner white oak (now WATSON's) thence North
85¼ East 82 poles 20 links to a stone, thence North 69 poles 5 links
to a Turkey oak bush marked for a corner on the Louisburg Road;
thence along said road westwardly to the beginning - and adjoining
the lands of the said WILLIAM D. JONES and others. And the said
WILLIAM D. JONES doth hereby bind himself, his heirs, executors and
administrators to warrant and defend the title to the said tract of
land unto the said CHRISTOPHER C. CHRISTMAS, his heirs and assigns
forever. In testimony whereof the said WILLIAM D. JONES hat hereunto
set his hand and seal the day and year first above written. WM. D. JONES Witness W. T. ALSTON WILLIAM A. Carolina, of the first part, and ERASMUS CHRISTMAS, formerly a slave
of LEWIS Y. CHRISTMAS, deceased, of said County and State of the
second part, Witnesseth whereas the said LEWIS Y. CHRISTMAS in his
will bequeathed a legacy of Ten thousand dollars to certain of his
slaves in said will named, and in the proportions therein stated,
which legacy was charged on the residue of his estate, real and
personal which was devised and bequeathed by his said will to the
said WILLIAM D. JONES; and whereas a suit was lately brought in the

JONES; and whereas the said party of the second part has this day
executed a release according to the said agreement. Now this
Indenture witnesseth that the said WM. D. JONES, in consideration of
the premises and the further consideration of the sum of one dollar
to him in had paid by the said party of the second part before the
execution of this deed (the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged)
hath bargained, sold and conveyed and doth hereby bargain, sell and
convey unto the said party of the second part, and his heirs and
assigns forever, the said tract of land, situated in the County in
the County[sic] of Warren aforesaid on the road from
Warrenton to Louisburg adjoining the lands of WM D. JONES and
others, and bounded as follows: Beginning at a Turkey oak bush on
the S side of the road, the corner of lot 2, and running S 69 pole 5
links to a stone, thence N 85¼ E 228 pole 20 links to a holly bush,
thence N 57 W 186 pole to the Warrenton Road, thence westwardly
along the road to the first station, containing ninety four acres.
And the said WILLIAM D. JONES doth hereby bind himself, his heirs,
executors and administrators to warrant and defend the title to the
said tract of land unto the said party of the second part and his
heirs and assigns forever. And the said WILLIAM D. JONES doth
covenant and agree with the said party of the second part to deliver
to him the said mule within thirty days from the date hereof. In
testimoney wherever the said WILLIAM D. JONES hath hereunto set his

State of North Carolina, of the first part, and KEZIAH CHRISTMAS, a
freedwoman, formerly a slave of LEWIS Y. CHRISTMAS, deceased, of
said County and State of the second part, Witnesseth whereas the
said LEWIS Y. CHRISTMAS in his will bequeathed a legacy of Ten
thousand dollars to certain of his slaves in said will named, and in
the proportions therein stated, which legacy was charged on the

links to the Long Branch, thence down the said branch to a bunch of
sweet gums standing in the South side of said branch and marked for
the corner, thence N 24 W 120 pole to the road at a small cedar,
thence up the road to the beginning containing ninety four acres.
And the said WILLIAM D. JONES doth hereby bind himself, his heirs,
executors and administrators to warrant and defend the title to the
said tract of land unto the said party of the second part and her
heirs and assigns forever. In testimony whereof, the said WILLIAM D.
JONES hath hereunto set his hand and affixed his seal, the day and

State of North Carolina of the first part, and MARCUS GEORGE
CHRISTMAS, a freedman, formerly a slave of LEWIS Y. CHRISTMAS,
deceased, of said County and State of the second part. Witnesseth,
whereas the said LEWIS Y. CHRISTMAS in his will bequeathed a legacy
of ten thousand dollars to certain of his slaves, in said will
named, and in the proportions therein stated, which legacy was
charged on the residue of his estate real and personal which was
devised and bequeathed by his said will to the said WILLIAM D.
JONES, and whereas a suit was lately brought in the Court of Equity

Louisburg adjoining the lands of WM. D. JONES & others and bounded
as follows: Beginning at a stone on the S.E. side of the Warrenton
Road and running S 57 E 186 poles to a holly bush thence N 85¼ E 46
pole 10 links to a pine, thence N 37 E 23 pole to a sweet gum
standing on the S sided of Fishing Creek, thence up the creek its
various courses to the long bridge, thence across the road south
westwardly to the beginning containing ninety four acres. And the
said WILLIAM D. JONES doth hereby bind himself, his heirs, executors
and administrators, to warrant and defend the title to the said
tract of land unto the said part of the second part and his heirs
and assigns forever. In testimony whereof the said WILLIAM D. JONES
hath hereunto set his hand and affixed his seal, the day and year
first above written. |
